I was looking at this before work this morning. Looks like a very nice Callaway.....were these faster than our Beasts, stock for stock?

Looks like top speed in 1987 was 187 mph. Acceleration looked slower at over 5 seconds to 60 and 13.4 in the quarter.

I worked with a guy at Disney when I lived in Florida, and he had a 1991 Callaway coupe. I will never forget the day he got to work and had hit something on the road. Whatever it was, it had put a huge hole in his radiator.....I never saw the car again after that. I would always ask if he got it fixed, and he would say nope, cant afford the radiator lol. This was in 1996 -1997, so I can imagine it wasn't a cheap fix back then.

I have both, though my Callaway has a few mods, some done in Old Lyme. They need vanity plates: DRJEKYL and MRHYDE because they go about their business very differently.

The LT5 has a very traditional feeling of acceleration and it will absolutely gain back the speed and distance over 90 or 100 that it gives up before then. It’s got long legs compared to the CTTC.

The Callaway, though lag wasn’t bad by the standards of the day, has that tricky nothing-happening for a beat or two followed by the Millenium Falcon hyperspeed effect when the landscape starts to rush toward you way faster than you thought possible. There is still the problem of keeping the air moving through those long runners, though. Like the base cars, it runs out of breath before 5000 rpm.

I’m only speculating about actual driving over 80 though - honest. I save the speed for the track.
