View Full Version : Console & Center Dash Service?

One thing always leads to another!
Pulled the drivers seat to repair bladder pump & replace bladder. (Passenger side done last week).
While it is out I decided to go ahead and remove the radio control head as the CD deck is inop. Sending it to Dr. Don. He did the DCM and all 4 speaker assemblys a few weeks ago. (Not real sure why I am spending all this money on the radio. I turn it off everytime I go for a drive!)
My question is: What other service should I do while I have the console & center dash apart? I intend to clean the AC control button contacts and also the power key switch contacts as I have seen these can give trouble. Of course, I will clean the whole area before re-assembly.
Is there anything else I should address while I am in this far?
Everybody likes pics. Here's a couple.

I'm interested in what you used to repair (replace I assume) the seat bladder .. a direct replacement part, or a similar substitute? Something I need to do as well. Already repaired the pump diaphragms.

Stephen,
I saw several threads about modifying something to use as bladders. Blood pressure cuffs, bicycle tubes, etc. I didn't think the cost of replacement bladders was enough to re-invent the wheel.
I got mine from Davie's. (corvetteparts.com). Their part # is 421024.
Nearly everyone has them. Run 70-100 bucks each depending on who has them on sale. Be sure and check the female hose connectors. Mine were rotten and fell apart when I unhooked them. Davie's part # 421041.
Supposedly you can just release the bottom and 1 side of the cover to install the bladder. I went ahead and opened up the whole bottom section to be sure and get all the old out and have the new one laying correctly.
Not too bad a job. Good luck!

Thanks Kenny. I kind of had the same feeling when researching things originally .. seemed a lot of trouble to re-engineer bladders for marginal savings .. best to go ahead and get the direct replacements. Thanks for the part refs!

To contribute to the topic of the thread - there were two additional things (besides sending the head unit off for repair like you did) I had to do under the console. First was to refurbish the power key tumbler; it was not closing the circuit reliably. Second was to reinsert the INFL REST light bulb that had been removed at some point, which eventually led to me having to re-seat the air bag sensors and clear the code properly.

So maybe make sure all of the DIC lights are installed that should be?

Checking all the bulbs is a good idea.
Thanks for the suggestion.:-D
