For those of you that do car shows/cruise ins what is one of your great fears of happening to your C4? For most it would be their clamshell hood slamming down and destroying the hood, windshield etc. from the wind or some knucklehead touching it! Well I came across a gentleman who machines a "prop key" that effectively takes away any chance of your hood coming down. His name is Carter and for $20 he can make one for you or for an extra $5 drill a hole to accommodate adding a keychain " remove before flight" ( you supply the keychain sold on eBay for cheap) or whatever you wish (shipping is included in price). I HIGHLY suggest getting the prop key drilled by Carter as the required hole is on a pretty steep angle and most don't have the equipment to do this. THIS WILL WORK WITH 88-96 C4's ONLY.
If you wish to order one you can contact Carter via email at ctmachining@gmail.com. He will respond to you with instructions to pay him via Paypal.
No, I do not know Carter or get a kick-back for helping him sell these, i just believe this is a very unique, effective and creative product that can prevent some major damage to our C4's and it is very nice looking (especially if you add the "Remove Before Flight" keychain) as opposed to a bolt or stick propping up the hood taking away from your presentation of your C4 at shows.

I’ve owned C4’s for thirty years and never seen a need for a prop lock.
Is this an issue? Or do you guys just like that colorful tag?

Normally the hoods will stay up just fine. It is that one case when it comes crashing down that makes a safety catch invaluable.
For reference, floor jacks rarely fail, but I always put stands underneath before I get under it. Only takes one slip to ruin an otherwise good day.
(By the way, I don't think the "colorful flag" comes with it.)

I have knocked it and had the hood come down on me! I use a three point hitch tractor clip pin. I ground on it some the attached a short lanyard and it rests down near the horn. I use it always.

The flag does not come with it but is a clever added touch. I have now been banned at the "other" site for offering this safety item there. Bunch of BS but that is how they roll. Great guys here!
If you need a anti-fall hood prop key give me a PM or email me. Thanks to all for your support.......:handshak:

Yep. Mine caught wind at a show before I could get the "Carters prop key" put in it - and came right down. Luckily I was right there and caught it before it slammed down. After that I have key in hand when lifting hood...

I will be sending Carter a PM on payday for some of that Carter bling....I have never had issues with my hood open, but this weekend I did. Took my Beast over to my brothers house so we could look at why I'm getting a low coolant light....well he opened the hood, and didn't know to raise it all the way till it clicks into place on the rod. Had my back turned when I heard a big slam!! The look on his face...Priceless hahahaha!!! Nothing damaged, but I don't want to hear that sick sound again.

Jeff,
Shouldn't be a big deal to put a hole in it. Or you could get Carter to make you another one. I'm sure he wouldn't mind!

Carters setup is the best looking solution to the unintended hoop drop.
Last month I was working on a water pump leak and had a droplight next to the radiator. I turned around and the hood dropped. I didn’t notice any damage until I got under the cars. I noticed shards of red fiberglass. Evidently the droplight hit the headlight bezel when the hood dropped unexpectedly.
I’ve been using a screwdriver as my hood key. But now I’ll have something esthetically better looking when the hood is up![emoji16]
The replacement bezel cost $110 and the paint job another C note!
Worth the money spent on the hood prop key!!!

Lou,
Thank you for the kudos. Sorry you had the hood drop and cause the damage to the car and your wallet. I have had many Z and C4 owners tell me of their horror stories and I'm glad to provide an affordable and great looking product that works everytime!
Please tell all your friends and others you see with an 88-96 C4 of this safety issue and my solution. Thanks to all, Carter:handshak:
