I was cleaning on my engine tonight and noticed the Corvette emblem on the valve covers having a purple hue to it. What’s the story on that? It’s definitely not the typical red/black emblem combo. Does the heat change the hue or was it delivered this way? Seems like there must be a story there. Thanks, guys!

P.S. Is it just me or does my engine look like hell for 36,000 miles? For the outside to be so clean, the engine is going to need my undivided attention.

The emblems get like that from age and varying conditions, but did not come like that. I have to say that that motor does not look like a 36K motor, but it depends on previous owner car, what part of the country and other storage conditions, etc.

Original finish doesn't seem to age well, and pain to clean, sometimes makes it worse.
Refinished engines look way better and easy to clean.

I know they say to never use water near the plenum, (let alone a powerwasher) but after 6000 miles driven ...she needed a good washing. 7672767376747675

Thanks, HAWAIIZR-1. Figured it must be color changed over time. Yeah, I'm with you on the engine look. It's rough for it's mileage. I can speak to the last 15 years of it being garage kept 100% of the time here in Texas and never exposed to rain, ice, etc. I can't speak to the original owner's care in Colorado. I suppose some of that could be salt related. Nevertheless, as George suggests, refinishing may be in my future. I see Marc does a terrific looking job with that.

Yours looks great, George. I love the look of the LT-5 on the water manifold and throttle body.

PurplePower degreaser & Distilled water mixed 4:1 spray bottle. Wheel detail brush agitate. Hose off, blow dry.
Hyper Dressing & Distilled water 4:1 spray, the use a painters brush to blend instead of wiping off.

*Must take extreme care to protect vulnerable components. (LT1 Opti-Spark, ECM, Mass-Air, sensors, modules. LT5 entire plenum area)767676777678

Actually all the credit goes to Craig (Hawaii), he's the one that built this particular engine, was his 'ol 90 ZR-1. Mark Haibeck woke her up a little with a Dynotune, now she's a 511hp...Beast!

I just enjoy driving it, and keeping it cleaned up. Car has been a lot of fun, and very reliable ...6000 miles driven, and counting.

You’re welcome. Im going to attempt refinishing my 95 LT5 with 30K miles. I’m going to try Lingenfelter LT5 rattle can from Jerry. The 90 Z that George has now was done by powder coat from a Hawaii shop about 10 years ago. I wish I had the time, energy and money to do powder coat again. Best wishes with your project.

You're right--Marc does a terrific job of refinishing engines, in almost any color or finish you want. If you have any reason to have your car at Marc's for some upgrades (and, really, who doesn't have a need for a little more Haibeck Horsepower?) you should have him refinish it. When I decided to do his 510 package I had him do my '95 engine in "Fine Silver", which is about as close as he can get to the original stock color. Also used the stock black bolts (some of which Marc replaced with ones in better condition than mine--he has lots of takeoff bolts.) Trying to keep it as close to stock look as possible, although I did have him add his lettering for a little advertising (letters are decals that can be removed). Always wowed the crowd at shows.

Also on the emblem question, my emblems were also looking a bit shabby from years in an oceanside location and the usual engine heat, so I got some reproductions through Lee (LGAFF). Don't know if he still has any or has a source for them. ---Bob

I see that Mr. Haibeck sells repros of the emblems too. If JGAFF has any, I'd love to hear about it. Easy thing to fix to eliminate a minor annoyance.

Lee sent me a MAP sensor cover plate a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned he had the valve cover emblems for my '90, so I had him put a couple in the box. (Mine are fine, but spares never hurt)
Not sure if he has them for the '95, but worth checking.
The emblems I got are good quality.
The MAP sensor cover is great too. If you don't have one, you should get him to do one for you.

Yes, sir. I'm going to do that too.
