View Full Version : Beast #2 heads to Chicago!
And should arrive Wednesday.
After negotiating and a lot of thought on my end, I am the new owner of this legendary car and it's heading to Chicago as I type this.
A big thank you to Gary for inspecting the car and Justin for accepting my offer.
Rest assured this car is in good hands and will be serviced, maintained, and upgraded by some of the best in the business!

How long you keeping this one for? LOL

Forever! I only sold the last one because I needed the money for a business opportunity.
Business is great but part of me wished I never n sold that Z. For many reasons. Some I won't discuss here.

So Karl,
What is Pete doing to it? I would assume the stroker motor you always spoke of? Maybe a 391?
looking forward to see it

The 391 will happen one day!
I doubt it will be this summer.
I do not want to have any major down time and I doubt Pete can turn a 391 in a week!

Glad you got a car you wanted..
Now to pick your brain.. Remember Vettechat (this had to be 1996-1997ish)
The group met @ NCM and you went, and Doug was there. I ended up there on a trip of my own. I think Doug actually took a picture of me and my car in a similar post to what you guys were doing.. I will have to dig it out.
So now, was that Beast or Beast 2?
That was Beast #1.
I have not been to the NCM in quite a few years....
The car has arrived.

Great. Glad it went to a good home.
Took some pictures today.

I need to register the car.
I managed to take a quick joy ride around the neighborhood and the car with the 4.09 gears is pretty fast. Easily spins the tires through first gear.
There are a few miscellaneous problems.
1) ses light with a code 16
2) waiting for delivery of the driver side headlight cover.
3 the center digital display does not work. No mph, fuel level, etc. Gotta fix that.
Besides that the car is very clean and with the old b&b exhaust loud too.
I am planning the following mods to the car:
1) lightweight flywheel
2) Camaro clutch
3) lightweight pulley set w/underdrive for the water pump.
4) x pipe to replace resonator
5) coil over suspension
6) Vette 2 Vette frame stiffeners
7) oil catch can
8) relocate battery to rear
9) silicone hoses
10) short throw shifter
11) zd doc beam plates
12) drm camber rod brackets
13) ACI cold air intake
14) Dewitt's aluminum radiator

It has 2 roofs right? is the acrylic roof cracked? looked like it in one of the earlier pictures.
Are you sure it does not have the aluminum flywheel?
Which Short Shifter?
I need to double check the ses code too. I forget if it was 61 or 16.
I have both tops and the clear is not cracked. I will double check it. I have not had much time to work or look at the car until this weekend.
Going with either a Hurst of zf doc shifter.
I hear no rattle and no mention in the records of a light flywheel installed.

could have been power lines across when looking up and through in one of the pictures I saw which is why I asked
No problem. The car will not be winning any NCRS awards for being all original!
But I really like it and everyone who didn't buy this car missed out on one heck of a deal and car.
😀
Quick photo of parts....drm brackets and stock shifter going to zf doc tomorrow for modifications (shifter only).

Modified oil catch can inlet line.

Things are moving along pretty well. I have the oil catch can installed and just about all the upgrades have arrived.
I need to pull the plenum and check the connecting harness to verify the ignition module is connected properly. Hopefully it is not and is a simple cure for the code 16. The prior owner pulled the plenum to replace the coils and I assume the distributor ignition system harness was not plugged up correctly.

Congrats Karl on a truly unique story/history to this car. Justin sent me all the info as I was looking at it also and almost decided to buy it. I think of it as fate. It was destined to come your way. That and my wife made it clear she doesn't like yellow on any car. Personally I think the yellow looks cool. Justin said it was a Viper Yellow Metallic not sure how that looks verses the Competition Yellow GM painted the cars. Cool car though.

Thank you for the kind words. The yellow looks like the yellow on the C4 Corvette. My favorite color is black but I like the yellow and it will do just fine.
Hopefully I will be able to beat or at least match Doug's best time in the car at the 1/4 mile soon.
Looks like the code 16 has been solved.

just hope the pin doesn't break
just hope the pin doesn't break
Fingers crossed!
This Z is cleaner than the black one I had. Hard to believe considering the miles.
Beast #2 secondaries are gone and 16 new fuel injectors have been installed along with the performance upgrades.
This car will spin the tires in second gear from a slow roll at 15+mph.
I have a few miscellaneous things to do.
So far so good.
Big thanks to Pete for working on the car.
I am mechanically inclined but have no where to work on the car and I don't like waiting!
1/4 mile times are next along with another update.
Drive your Z!

Karl,
Just did an update to the catch can w the screen and steel wool. As for the inlet port, I had some rubber tubing that squeezes into the backside of the inlet. VERY tight fit. Don’t believe it’ll go anywhere.
Looks good!
As long as that tube stays put you should be good.

Keep everyone updated....you should see much better results.
New wheels and tires are on.

Everything except the ltpws works on Beast #2!
And that is only because I have the CCW CLASSIC 18's on!
I knew there were quite a few miscellaneous issues that needed to be addressed and the heater core was in need of replacement.
Off to Marc Haibeck for a heater core swap and while you're in there let's fix all the miscellaneous issues at hand.
The car runs amazingly great!
Off to phase 3!

Like the black center for the wheels Karl. It tames the yellow down a bit.
They were originally silver, matching the outter lip. I just sprayed them black.
Thanks for the compliment!

Always liked a little bit of polished lip highlight to break up the black.
