I was about to install the new (to me) engine doing some final clean up and prep in the engine bay when I noticed a small puddle of oil on the pan under the car. Further investigation identified the top pinion seal on the steering rack leaking. A nice puddle just sitting there not even any pressure in the system.

So.... with the high miles on the car...while I was in there.... a rebuilt steering rack is on its way and the old one is out. Hope this stuff stops soon.

Hans,

Its part of the allure of a ZR-1. You should know that by now.

You're gonna have nearly a brand new Z when you're all done, H!

Better to do it now! You're going to have a nice ride when you're finished Hans...

I suppose it’s all about frame of mind or expectations. I bought this car because I wanted an extended project. That’s what I got. It’s just funny how things that aren’t a problem one day become one the next. It’s the world of old high mile cars. So from the steering rack back, the engine, clutch, trans, ujoints and diff (rebuilt by the PO) will be new or rebuilt. Also the shocks were done by the PO. A full suspension rebuild is next winters project, tho it’s good for now.

The usual caveat always applies: Be careful what you ask for....:) --Bob

Isn’t that the truth... if it weren’t for the fact that I’m trying to get this car ready in time for the RMR it wouldn’t bother me a bit. To me at least, the work is half the fun.

Hans,

My Black Rose started out at 112K when I got it. Yes everything from the radiator and now the condenser will have been replaced/upgraded and that includes the drivetrain, suspension, brakes blah, blah blah. Basically a form of "resto-mod". :dancing:dancing;);)
