FWIW, This race is suppose to be Danica Patrick's SWAN SONG (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/danica-patrick-final-race-2018-indy-500/) (so to speak).
She's done well - nothing too spectacular far as checkered flags go, but to set goals and make the attempt: =D> a real role model for gals my daughter's age: a real go-getter, starting at age 16. My hat is off to her!
And, then I see the news about this 30 year old dude who's parents had to sue in order to get him evicted from their house. And, the report went on to say that like this dude, the % of millenials that are still living at home is higher than any time in recent history![-X
GOOD LUCK DANICA! KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP!

Look for Castroneves to drink
from the "Glass Chalice" for
the 4th time!
Danica will be in the hunt and her
winning would be neat,
but it ain't gonna happen...
🏁
Keep an eye on Robert Wickens...

Was there any reason why the C4 ZR-1 was never used as a Pace Car?

I'm not an open-wheel guy, but what I do find interesting about this race is that the pace car is more powerful than the cars it is pacing. That's gotta be a first.

My wife and I attended the whole weekend. Race was pretty clean until the last 50 laps. Crazy finish! After another yellow flag, there were 8 laps to the finish. The two leaders pitted with two laps to go.. gambled with fuel and lost. Will Power won (Aussie). Great guy and great family. Lots of patriotic celebrations.. we were in SW VISTA, section 10, row nn.. crowds were nuts![ATTACH]

Oh, and Danica broke loose in turn two and was out at I believe lap 67. Biggest disappointment was last year's winner was taken out early by rookie driver that didn't get out of the way.. real shame..

Indy was entertaining this year especially with the new cars and adjustment in driving style required. The F1 race in Monaco on the other hand was unfortunately another boring parade of expensive machinery with the possible exception of seeing whether Ricciardo could nurse his ailing car home and win the race. I literally started falling asleep a few times. I really hope Liberty Media, the new F1 Owners, get this fixed and stop catering to the top 3 teams.

Yeah, I commented to my wife that this is the first time the pace car is almost as fast as the race cars....lol

Well...NOW for the important stuff: the 24 hr Le Mann's!
I root for the Corvettes...but am not disappointed when a mid engine DOHC GT car shows the pushrods the way to the checkered flag. Am I perverted? LOL!:o

Frankly Hans, I am bored by the whole “formula” thing in racing and that goes for NASCAR as well. The idea of IROC type racing in motor racing is boring to me which is why I appreciate LeMans. Seeing different type cars on the same track.
Stock car racing when they looked like the one in the street, or Indianapolis with a “run what u brung” attitude for experimentation ie the STP Turbine cars. Yeah F1 is boring. I think its the high pitch motors with the race sounding like a hornets nest that was kicked over. Although the technology is amazing.

Sorry Hans and Dom, I like Formula 1 racing. To me it is infinitely better than running in circles like NASCAR mostly does--How about on one mile ovals--talk about falling asleep! I do like watching indy cars when they run on road courses, but the F1 drivers are some of the best in the world. Granted Monaco is a difficult place to pass so the pole sitter has a good chance to win, but it is an incredibly historic venue so fun to watch. ANd there is a lot of great racing to watch in the middle of the pack. And Hans is right--Daniel Ricciardo did an amazing job keeping his ailing car in front and winning. It was a great day for Australians as Will Power won Indy and Daniel Ricciardo won Monaco. Next time you are driving some aggressive touring laps at the NCM or another track, remember that F1 cars can experience over 5 Gs in all four directions from accelerating, braking and cornering.
I do have a big gripe about F1 this year--They switched from NBC to ESPN. NBC had been doing a superb job with coverage and analysis with a great team of experienced and easy to understand announcers. ESPN took over and it was initially such a disaster that after a flood of complaints they decided to broadcast all of the F1 races without any ads in them. Instead of a well developed broadcast like that of NBC, ESPN has just picked up the Sky Sports feed with poor graphics and announcers who are often impossible to understand. to paraphrase, England and America--two great countries separated by a common language. Still I do enjoy the racing.--Bob

Bob,
I would rather watch F1 than NASCAR. Frankly road course is much more interesting to me than roundy round. LeMans type racing is what I really like.

AMEN to the compliments expressed herein to both open-wheel racing series and to IMSA. I believe INDYCAR is now as great and competitive as CART was in the 90s before the CART/IRL split, and while F1 may not have as much passing on any given weekend, the quality of racing and the majority of passes attempted and executed are stunning. We and 37 other Corvette couples are off to see the C7-Rs compete in IMSA on July 7/8 just outside Toronto (used to be called Mosport). Great time to me a motor sports fan!!!!

F1
Inverted starts would make it a lot better to watch and maybe give more teams a chance.
To prevent sandbagging, award points equal points to the race points
for qualifying.
Do away with DRS too... or allow anytime, anywhere and as long as you care to push the button...
Do away with virtual safety car too...
Oh, and only 6 guys over the wall during pit stops!
Better yet have the driver get out and change his own tires... :)
And, most importantly, more screen time for the Grid Girls!!!!

I’m actually a big F1 fan. My issue is that the way is it set up now only the top 3 teams can win, let alone make the podium. Everyone else is an also-ran. Budgets are out of control. Race revenues go heavily to the top 3. Races are often run away affairs where the leader or top 2-3 cars are so far in front no one can catch up. The virtual safety car rule protects those leads. Passing has become difficult at all of the tracks not just the street courses. Cars can’t follow each other closely because the aero package turbulence is so bad that following cars loose too much handling and braking. All this results in races that end up being 2 hr parades of cars going round and round. Not good racing. The last time someone other than Mercedes, a Ferrari or a Red Bull has won was March of 2013 when Lotus won. Look it up. That’s over 5 years of nothing but these 3, mostly Mercedes. To me that’s boring. Something has to change and I hope Liberty Media will make the racing more competitive in the future. I still love the spectacle of F1, the exotic machines and the speed. Now I just need some real competition.

That kind of racing does nothing for me. So much in fact, I let Mike drive my car on the NCM track, I rode shotgun. No interest in driving. Wanna get my attention, give me the opertunity to sit in a 300 mph funny car, now we are talking.
