Where to mount a I-PASS? Radar cut out in the windshield? Back window? What works?

Do they still offer the front plate mount?
if not the cut out will be the spot. I have a regular C4 windshield so mine is in the normal spot by the mirror

On my trip to Carlisle and back, I had forgotten my I-pass transponder was in the console - and proceeded to pay cash for the first 4 or 5 toll booths encountered. But, as I drove up to the pay window of the 6th toll boot, the "THANK YOU" light came on and the toll gate lifted before I came to a stop at the booth.
That's when I realized the transponder was in the console storage. Well, I didn't bother to stop at any more toll windows for the rest of the trip (thank goodness!!). And, when I went on-line to check my I-PASS account, sure enough I'd been debited for each all of the toll stops that I also paid cash at!
I DO have a standard windshield too. But, I wonder if that even matters, far as the I-PASS transponder goes!?

What roof is on the car? Painted vs Acrylic might be a potential difference in performance

I am quite sure the I-PASS is RFID, so going through fiberglass or Acrylic is easy. going through Steel not so much
this is why they say keep on the windshield, that said, with the Solar Windshield in the Z, it would be a good test, which I would suggest is done at a manual booth (for the first try) and see if it works from the console

IIRC, the console lid is at least partly made of steel.
Whatever. But, I agree...ploping it in the console and driving up to a toll booth DOES work w/ a std W/S. Just have to see if it works with ZR-1 W/S.

Just the hinge is steel, lid is plastic

Or you can hold it out the window as you pass by the I Pass sensors!

I’m using the radar cutout for mine that works, but I have not tried any other location.

I positioned it under and slightly in front of my Valentine 1 radar detector in the windshield cutout. With the V1 securely attached to the windshield with suction cups and the I-Pass underneath, I pushed the V1 tight against it. It held it there fine and always worked at the tolls. (FYI, my V1 was hardwired with the wire source at the fusebox on the passenger side of the dash [accessible when the passenger door is open]. The wire is then run up under the dash and out the grill in the dash center. Had to make a small notch in the edge of the grill. And full disclosure: Marc Haibeck did the actual work.)--Bob

Being registered in Florida my Z does not have front plate. License plate mount transponder fit nicely inside the front plate filler trim and works great.

I used 3M Velcro on a plate mount I-PASS. Used it 14 times over the past six months with no issues. Works great concealed.

I have the OEM windshield and have tried several locations for the I-Pass here in Illinois. The only place it reads for me is the windshield cutout.
I love the idea of placing the transponder behind the front plate cover, that would solve a lot of issues.

I've had my NY EZ-Pass in the radar cut-out for quite a while. Works well there.
Front radar detector is mounted inside the front bumper near the front license plate. Front plate is where they target radar/laser.
