It seams there is always something to repair on a 28 year old C4 corvette. The LH headlight this morning decided it would only open 3/4 of the way. I grabbed my section 8A supplement to the FSM and after an hour of doing the diagnostics it appears they both should be working. Then I discovered I could manually spin the motor and close the headlight. tried again and the same thing, opens up 3/4 way and stops. Then I decided to spin the motor to open the headlight all the way. It was very difficult to manually spin the motor to full open but I did it. turned the lights on and then off and the headlight spun closed.Turned them on and it stopped 3/4 open again. The headlight assembly is not bound up,I can easily move it back and forth freely an inch where it stops. But I can no longer manually spin the motor to full open. I can only spin it to close and the motor will close it.
The nylon gears were replaced about 10 years ago.Does anyone believe they could bind up in this fashion or is there something else going on?

Most likely delrin bushing issue.

secondchance,Do you believe they have broken up in such a way that they are binding up and not allowing the gear to turn any farther than 3/4 way. I was expecting the motor to keep spinning without movement.

Tough to say. I would get delrin bushings and a gear just in case before disassembly. Manually turning and electric operation may have jammed it.

Thanks secondchance and goldcylon. I'll take it apart and hopefully it will be the bushings.

Well ordered a gear and bushings. They came yesterday. Took it apart this morning and it turned out to be the gear. It had split and was binding up. All is good again. Thanks.
