ACEMCO off to Mosport
Spring Lake, Mich. - ACEMCO Motorsports is off to Canada for round six of the American Le Mans Series race at the historic Mosport International Raceway to be run on August 8th.
Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem, drivers of the number 63 ACEMCO Motorsports/Saleen S7-R, are currently third in the ALMS GTS standings with 58 points.
Mosport is a 2.5-mile; 10-turn road course located 25 miles north of Toronto. The historic circuit formerly played host to the Canadian round of the Formula 1 Grand Prix series, last run there in 1977.
Johnny Mowlem last raced at Mosport in 2001. "Mosport is a little like a very fast Oulton Park, which is near Liverpool, home of the Beatles. I like turns one and two, they really challenge a driver. Turn five is also fun because you have a blind entry and the car gets light and you just keep your foot in it to the entry of Moss corner."
Terry Borcheller has driven a Saleen at Mosport twice in 2000 and 2001 with a best finish of second. "Mosport is a driver's track that is very technical, amazingly quick and requires a fast rhythm. There is a nice mix of slow and fast turns, so the cars setup has to be right on. I am glad we are having the test on Tuesday, it shows the team is still hungry for improvement."
The team is planning on testing at Mosport on Tuesday. "We have had some issues the past two races with our rear half-shafts." said Jeff Giangrande, team owner. "We believe we have narrowed it down to a manufacturing flaw and we were not able to receive new spec parts until this week. We are going to test some new parts and the axles on Tuesday so we can put this issue behind us and get on with the racing."
Round six the American Le Mans Series will be August 8th and televised live on CBS starting at 12:00 p.m. EST.
