View Full Version : Pink/white grime around a couple of injectors

So I'm now under the plenum in my "new" '90 .. this feels like some kind of right of passage!
I have to replace all of the injectors as they are still OEM (car only has 20k miles and has been barely driven the last 15 years.) There was definitely some miss-fires on at least one cylinder in the little bit I drove it before doing this work.
I found this pinkish grime on the plenum and on a couple of the injectors, around the cylinder that was miss-firing. Is this a sign of leaky injector? Anything to worry about, or just clean it up and replace the injectors? New set is stainless from FIC.

Blow everything clean with compressed air before you remove Injectors (You are past that). Now use Paper Towel to carefully wipe the Injector Ports Clear of ALL debree going from inside to outside. I would carefully install the old injectors with white grease on "O" rings during the valley cleaning process.
The Pink could be antifreeze but am not sure. You want to make sure NO Grime falls into the Injector Ports.
I ALWAYS Recondition the Starter Solenoid and Alternator (sometimes install New Starter and/or rebuilt Alternator).
I ALWAYS Clean the Valley Drain.
I sometimes replace Coils.
I ALWAYS check for Vacuum Leaks and Install New connectors often.
I ALWAYS Install two New Secondary Linkages from Jerry.
I ALWAYS Tighten ALL Injector Housing Bolts and Crankcase Cover Bolts which I Re-Install Crankcase Cover Bolts with Red Loctite.
I ALWAYS Block TB Coolant at the Injector Housing.
I ALWAYS Replace Older Style Injectors and Install New Injector "O" rings.
And.....Now......I ALWAYS Install Phil's (Jagdpanzer) Improved Fuel Pressure Regulator :D
I use the Blue Tape used for masking during painting (like window frames on a house) to cover Injector Ports and any other openings.
Jerry at Jerry's Gaskets (http://www.jerrysgaskets.com/) has all the gaskets and other parts you may need and he delivers in two days or less with super packaging on gaskets.

Yeah, rookie mistake :) I will vacuum it up carefully.
BTW, love reading your archived posts .. I've learned a ton! It would be nice to have all of that in a separate indexed website.

Compressed Air and a Vacuum are your best friends often when removing the Plenum :handshak:

The pink could be some kind of cleaner thats residual and dried there, could be from.a car wash foam who knows.
I haven't seen anything pink come from gasoline.

Another pink color fluid was OEM cam cover sealant that is another possibility. GC
