The rockers were the first thing I noticed. Based on the condition of the front spoiler it might be a low mile car.

What a shame!!
I read that the driver will thankfully survive.
Everyone please acknowledge their limitations. Have seen way too many that pushed just a bit too far and the result was catostrophic.

Report suggests he took out power lines.....looks like he rolled into power pole on Passenger Side. Sounds like the guy was alert and conscious and being extracted and no passenger.......

I think the impact was actually on the drivers side.
Very fortunate outcome appears to be positive for the driver.

What a shame. Glad the driver made it! A testimony to how well our cars were built back in the day! Hate to lose a yellow one!

Very unfortunate to see another ZR-1 destroyed. I’ve only been a member for a few months now and I think this is the third Z I’ve seen removed from existence during this short time.....In the bigger picture I guess it adds to the rarity as they drop off. Has anyone ever kept track of the known totaled ZR-1’s over the years? It would make for an interesting section on the forum.

Certainly a blessing that the driver is ok.
Lee,
Sorry to hear about the nut that hit you guys. Pray that Hannah is ok as well!
What happens in California with totaled cars? The LT-5 and the ZFS6-40 should be good since the impact was mid body. ECM and Ignition module also come to mind.

Would love to get a hold of the ECM and ignition module, or locate one to borrow or buy, or get one of mine repaired.

Are those a Michelin Pilot Sport version that have not been made in a very long time (like at least ten years or more)? If so, I wonder if the tires had anything to do with the crash.

If they are Michelin Pilot Sport, they are not the latest design. Just bought a new set yesterday and the tread pattern is quite different. If you’re going to haul a$$, your tires shouldn’t be more than 5 years old, as many of you have told me!

Yep, last gen design of the Pilot Sport. Could have had something to do with it, likely hard as rocks.

Old tires kill thats for sure.

I researched the weather that morning and it was 39 degrees. I know from experience summer tires have no grip at that temperature. Plus as you mentioned really old Michelin’s! Put them together and you loose your ride and almost your life.

Hi guys,
I think I have found "conclusive" evidence that this was a 1994 ZR-1 that was totaled.
Corvette Blogger had a link to a local paper that supplied about 7 pictures from the accident.
http://www.thepress.net/news/driver-trapped-after-rollover-accident-on-marsh-creek-road/article_f4f309ae-1015-11e8-b370-53d01a078b94.html
From the pictures, we see that the car has the updated, last design '94-'95 interior ('94 - '96).
In the first picture, if you click on the picture (to enlarge it), I think you will see the underside of the side gill, which is the '91 to '94 style.
So, it appears that a '94 Competition Yellow/black ZR-1 has bit the dust.
Your thoughts?

No aluminum front spring guards like my 94.

You can see in picture #5 the filler in the license plate frame and ZR-1 emblem on the bumper.

Yes. The 94 identification comes from the side gill laying on the ground in the lower rigbt hand corner of the first pic along with later interior pics.

HEY guys, newbie here. saw this post and just wanted to join and clear the air...the owner of the yellow 94 ZR1 in the accident is a real close friend of mine(78 years young). i can assure you he was NOT driving past his limitations. he was out for a gentle sunday morning corvette exercise as he does every sunday. the last thing he remembers is a car passing him and looked down at his speedo and was it was reading 42 mph. the front left tire was flat suggesting a possible blow-out. hopefully, his memory will come back so we can find out what really happened. he only suffered minor injuries, broken left tibia, bruises, stitches etc, and is expected to be back to normal in another month or so. BTW, this was an NCRS top flight car, too! the insurance company through the corvette museum was steller in the whole process. they totaled it, obviously, and paid more than the stated value because of his driving record. how cool is that? kuddo's to the corvette museum insurance!!!:salute:

Thanks for the update! Very glad the driver is ok. Sad that he "lost" his Z, but there are others out there. I hope he can get back in one soon and finish the ride he was on..

in the copart pictures the Right front looks to be full of air. Left front has lost its bead to the rim.
Glad your friend will recover, but the damage to the car seems like more force than a 42mph hit to something

at my age and memory, i could have mixed up sides on the front tire being flat. either way, it's causing quite a storm over on the corvette forum website. i'm just trying to get the facts out there as i know them. alot of people over there are judge, jury and executioner all rolled up into one. oh well. i'm just glad he's still with us. the corvette can be replaced.

This is key..
As for the tire, just helping to clear thing up. I am not one to be jury or executioner, but will judge if things don't seem right.
While my opinion may say it was a faster hit than 42, I was not there
At any rate, glad your friend will recover
