Gentlemen, With Winter almost over it is now time to think about tires. I have received many PM regarding does the ZR-1 Net Registry have a tire discount? I don't know if the ZR-1 Net Registry has a contract with anyone, I have an account that I have let my ZR-1 Brothers use to get tires at a wholesale cost. If you need tires here is some of the pricing.
Price is per tire.

I'm prolly gonna be calling ya.
You drive on the Nitto "G2s" and from personal experience (following you in heavy rain going to BG) they do much better in those conditions than my 555/555r combo did/does.
Do you recommend G2s on all 4 corners - even to drag race? Or would you prefer to let the G2s "plow" a path for (say) the 555r or NT05s (rear)?
Your experience w/ the variety of combos would be interesting to hear.

With how much you drag race get the standard NT05 for the front and the rears.

Are there discounts available for Goodyear or Michelin’s?

Got a great deal thru Robert for a set
of Nitto 555 G2s for my other toy,
a BMW 540i/6 M-Sport, Dinan.
(Dinan is to BMW as Callaway is to Corvette...)
I've been researching for weeks and his connection
was the best price, by a wide margin, that I could find!
The 555 G2s get great reviews and they make 'em in
ZR-1 sizes too!
Thanks Robert!!!

Thanks for offering this up! Do your prices include shipping/taxes or would that be extra?

Any discounts on the Sumitomo's?

Any discounts on the Sumitomo's?
Sumitomos are already a pretty well discounted tire. They come in the correct size for the ZR-1 but in my opinion, they seemed "small" on the car. They also did not handle the power of the car very well when pushed aggressively.
Sumitomos have been installed on two previous ZR-1's that I have owned and they were the first things to go as well.
Just my two cents.

Sumitomo HRTZ’s are a value tire and customer surveys rank it 10 out of 15 of the high performance tires. Basically it is a good tire, but not an excellent one. It is a best seller because of its low price point and not a max performance tire. If you are not doing any extreme spirited driving and keep to the speed limits, then you’ll be OK.

As others have noted Sumis are an inexpensive tire in ZR-1 sizes that are probably OK for normal street driving. My'95 came with new Sumis in 2012 and I had used them on the '93 at one point. However, I had a problem with the Sumis on the '95. When at Bowling Green in 2014 I had a vibration. Had a local shop balance them but that still did not solve it. Found another tire shop (S&R Tires on Lovers Lane in BG) that had an experienced technician and a Hunter Road Force balancer. They carefully went through the balancing process and discovered that three of the tires had to be rotated on the rims about 180 degrees to achieve acceptable balance, and that the fourth tire was so far off the manufacturer's spec that it could not be completely balanced. But they solved about 95% of the vibration problem so I was pleased. They did good work. Shortly thereafter I switched to Michelin Pilot Sports from Costco (335s) and even though they did not have a Road Force balancer I never had a balance problem with them. "You pays your money and makes your choice." The few hundred dollars more for the Michelins was worth it to me.--Bob

Encountered exact same problem with my experiment with Sumitomo, and encountered it on another ZR-1 of a customer.
Switched to Nitto on the ZR-1 and Firestone on the other Vette.
Both cars have been balanced multiple times, not only at my shop, but at two tire dealers with the best equipment.....................
Vibration.
Both car s will get either Good Year or Michelin the next round.
You DON'T get what you DON'T pay for.

Sumis are not a bad tire. A very quite road tire, that I've had no issues with..... Many of us are NOT made of money and find spending almost $2000 on just tires insane....While my next tire purchase will be Goodyears, the Sumis are great for cruising. I agree, with spirited driving, they are not a good tire. They don't hook up well, and can be pretty greasy. But I think they get a bad rap for being the lowest price point.

Actually, despite my experience with the Sumis that couldn't be balanced on my '95, I did have a good experience with them on my '93. Can't remember how many miles I put on them but they worked fine and were inexpensive for my driving needs. But I really did like the Michelins I put on the '95. They were somewhat expensive, about $1,700 installed at Costco with Road Hazard warranty, but they felt much better than the replaced Sumis. --Bob

I replaced an old set of Kuhmos with Nitto 555 G2s last year. I wanted good rubber for the touring laps at the Gathering. Ride is good, no problems mounting or balancing, and they offer good wet performance. Goodyears and Michelins are no doubt great tires, but Nittos perform well at their price point.

Just replaced my 5 year old Goodyear GS-D3’s with Michelin’s Pilot Sport PS2 for $1377 from Discount Tire Direct.
Perrelli makes the best tire, but they don’t make 17’s for ZR-1’s. No 2 is Michelin and #3 is Goodyear.
