I've only heard of one but I'm not a corvette historian. The T10 was the old 4speed in the pre-C4s I think and also formed the non-overdrive part of the Doug Nash 4+3 in the early C4s. No idea what a T6 is.
Sounds like their 'corvette guy' needs to go back to school ;)

Yes and no.
One family of ZF 6 speeds but two styles of gears inside, if I recall corectily.

The part # was changed on the ZR-1 transmission from 10186865 to 10255122 starting on VIN #800232 in the 1993 model year. All Zr-1's are 6-speeds and 5th and 6th are overdrives.

there are two types of zf-6,apparently...the early ones(90-93) can handle more torque,as the late ones have different teeth angle to make them quieter, but a little less beefy

No, that never happened. There were earlier Corvettes that had a 4-speed with a 2-speed overdrive, but not by the time the ZR-1 was on the scene.

thats what i was thinking!!!!!!! AURORA. this is all over me having the clutch replaced. he asked me wich trans i had and i was dumbfounded. for some reason i never have had much luck with the GM techs. and to top it all off he said just to put it in (i already purchased the clutch kit) would be $1240.00-JUST TO PUT IT IN! does someone know what this SHOULD cost to have the clutch installed. no flywheel-just ACDELCO clutch kit i have? thanks guys

I live in the NYC/Metro area & that's the price I was quoted to do the labor, more or less. The dealer that quoted me was below a $100 @ hr on the labor. If I remember right the total job, parts + labor was right at $1400 with the sales tax.

On the trans issue, I think the early Z's had black tag (made in Germany) and the later Z's were blue tag (made in USA). The gears in 1 thru 4 on the blue tag ones had different cut angle for less whine. I also believe the inputshaft collar has a different diameter so the T/O is different P/N on the blue tag trans but that may not apply to the Z, just the other 6spd C4's.

QUESTION: Are the 6-speed transmissions in the ZR-1 the same as in other 6-speed C4s?
ANS: No, the unit in ZR-1s is specific to the car and unlike those used behind L98s, LT1s or LT4s. The difference is longer input shaft (~$550) and longer guide tube (~$110). This conversion requires unit disassembly (~4 hours labor). Also there are two different units (torque rating) used in the ZR-1: 1990-93 1/2 and 1993 1/25-95.

The early ZFs have a black label attached and later ones have a blue label attached.

Should be 6 hours maybe 7 at most. It is rather time consuming.
Undo shift knob and other interior trim
Remove exhaust
Remove driveline
Remove C-beam
Remove trans
Remove clutch slave
Remove bellhousing
Remove pressure plate and clutch disk
Prep and clean surfaces
And install.

Right, well the OD was a 2-speed overdrive, as in it had two ratios. It resulted in 3 extra overall gear ratios though (as it wasn't used on 1st gear).
