Nice... good to see it upholding the name.

Interesting video, be sure to watch it. Strange GPS plotting in the upper left corner of the video.

What is hard to believe the record was set on a cold track with SUMMER ONLY tires. I lost it twice in my ZR-1 on SUMMER ONLY tires. I need new tires. These Goodyear GSD-3’s don’t cut It anymore. Maybe a switch to Michelin tires...

Wow. That car looks/sounds powerful.

That lap time seemed odd, but then in the video you see it is the super long course version. I watched the MPH display climb to 160, then was surprised to see it slow down, not realizing he was turning right into the infield portion of the course. I wonder what top speed it would have done if it had the whole back straight. Maybe 170-175?

The GPS must have used the normal track layout.

Lots of new pavement patches. That surely helped.

Kind of weird that it's an automatic, but I guess it's not your normal TurboGlide. :-)

Thanks for sharing. Fun to watch.

Too bad it doesn’t have a hyphen.

Wow, just wow.

Thanks for sharing the vid.

I didn't care much for the looks of the C7 stingray at first, and I still think it's a little off ... BUT, the ZR(-)1 absolutely nailed the look IMHO.

Jim Mero can DRIVE.

And this from R&T

Just last week we told you a Ford GT set a new lap record for production cars (http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/a15884757/ford-gt-lap-record-vir-viper-acr/) around Virginia International Raceway's Grand Course West layout. Now, that record has been broken by the new Corvette ZR1 (http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a13517850/2019-chevrolet-corvette-zr1-release-date-specs-photos/).
Chevrolet announced today it was able to lap a 2019 ZR1 equipped with the optional eight-speed auto and ZTK performance package around VIR in 2:37.25. That's 1.37 seconds quicker than the Ford GT's time, making the ZR1 the fastest production vehicle to ever lap the course.

The amazing thing is it looked like Mero left a second or two on the table. And was fighting for traction coming out of the corners. Can't wait to see the magazine match-ups.

Have you guys seen the hood open on that car? It's V shaped, all that is black on the above picture stays put with the engine. Pretty cool.
It's amazing how the auto trans shifts, and sometimes doesn't shift.

You r right Hans. But maybe we’ll see something.

Dennis, to your point on traction, the ZR1 was running stock tires on a cold track altho the cold weather does help in terms of power which makes the traction issue worse.

Z06/Z07s and the ZR1 come equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Essentially racing slicks with a couple of minor grooves. Very sticky and they only get about 3,000-5,000 miles in normal street driving. But they are also not supposed to be used below 40 degrees. Don't know what the temp was at VIR that day.

The GPS map is indeed strange. I am guessing that when they initially went out on the track they only went around the outside loop. Then for this run they added some part of the track they hadn't used before. If we saw a PDR video of the next lap it would probably show the new track configuration used. Only my guess; I am not familiar with the VIR layout. Normally the GPS map is pretty accurate. --Bob

Pretty damn amazing, esp. for an 8 speed auto.

Pretty damn amazing, esp. for an 8 speed auto.It probably (maybe) helped. I wouldn't be surprised to hear it shifts faster that a manual, and let's the driver focus on everything else.

Even race cars have given up on the stick shift. Electronics are faster than our reflexes, and the future of rowing gears is eventually ending. We all love our manuals, but we can’t keep up with the latest tech... :-(

Except when the auto shifts at a bad time like midway through a turn. Maybe the newer ones don't do that anymore, It happened to me coming down Pikes Pike many years ago, terrifying!

The Old Top Gear guys now on AMAZON on the Grand Tour probably are not Dom. They pretty much have proven any car designed to beat the "ring" is not a great on the road driver lol. GC
