Hey guys,

I've been lurking this forum for the past 2 days and it has been SO informative. Long story short, my name is Brandon and I just purchased a 1991 Corvette ZR-1 red with saddle interior VIN#1G1YZ23JXM5801464

I was chasing down information on this car and it led me here to this killer forum! Ive even seen some members in posts asking about this particular VIN. I don't have the car yet but it should be here in a few days and I will post pictures. This is probably the coolest forum Ive seen since the days when I was a member of third gen.org. I also have a 2013 Mustang GT Premium in Gotta Have It Green. Its a sweet ride but I can't wait to drive the perfection that is ZR-1!! Im sure I'll have a great time here, as I don't plan on selling this car EVER EVER.

Thank you guys SO much!!!!

Cheers!

Ha, so nice thoughts from you Dennis. There is no way to thank the folks like you that make this group so great and what it is. The new folks only need to attend one Gathering to experience what I mean. I don’t know any other auto enthusiast groups exist as good as this one!

Welcome Vision. My pleasure of ZR-1 ownership is directly linked to the help I have received within this forum. I have a great time autocrossing with a Corvette Club from Sarasota. I own a 1991 Quasar Blue no. 729. Maybe we can hook up. BTW I have a lead on a well priced 1990 red/ gray one owner here in Ocala if you have friends interested.

We won’t hold that Mustang against you. But the more you drive the ZR-1, the less you’ll want to drive the ‘stang :))
BTW, there’s a lot of arrow straight two lanes around you. Get out on rt.60 and wack it. You’ll be 1/2 way across Fla. in no time :))

Hey ! Welcome to the forum of the original LT5 and congrats on the ZR-1 . Like others have said , when you hit 6000 rpm , or as Doc Brown would say , your gonna see some serious s#!t .
Night and day compared to your stang ... Stangs are fun cars too but a C4 Corvette is gonna put a bigger smile on your face . And the Z is the top C4 .
Enjoy .
PS ... 2 ft of snow here and can't wait for spring to hear all that wonder under the hood run again ...

Congrats and welcome ! Definitely a great group with so much support theyve been so very helpful to me so many times here ! I have a mustang too.. 15 GT in guard green :p Power curves are so very similar and the output from both my coyote and LT5 are likely similar as well but the 15 is so isolated and smooth. The Zr-1 is lighter and the whine and noises from the motor and trans plus the 'cockpit' feel make for a so very different experience altogether !

Welcome to our world of ZR-1’s. I would recommend you get some Corvette Coral tickets for the Rolex 24 at Daytona and/or Sebring 12 Hour races. Nothing like doing some fast laps at either venue, although Sebring has a rougher surface.

In any event, enjoy and have fun!

The "Mountain Run" has grown into an annual Corvette event: not to be missed!
It forms up in the Knoxville vicinity on Mother's Day for 3 days of spirited drives in the beautiful Smokey Mtns, ending up at Bowling Green, KY for the beginning of the NCM C4 GATHERING.
In its 6th year come May, it is one Corvette/ZR-1 event that many look forward to as a kickoff for the coming Corvette season. It's a terrific way to meet some of the exuberant members of the ZR-1 community; the "Brotherhood of the BEAST!"

Again...welcome!

Ok guys, I'm sorry about the long wait. There is kindof an interesting story with this one. I did purchase a 1991 Corvette ZR-1 with 57k original miles. When the car arrived the parking brake was broken and it has a hesitation issue with the throttle. I found out that getting one of these with low miles is NOT necessarily a good thing. According to the service records, this car has been sitting since 2015 and the issues it has are a direct result. I took the car to Corvette of Tampa and they fixed the parking brake. They gave me an engine additive to add to the fuel and they said that its a must that I put miles on this car. Im in the process of doing that and the engine does run better, but it still has some hesitation. The shop doesn't think anything is wrong with the injectors so after running about another tank of fuel and additive through we'll see. Anyways, it looks EXCELLENT inside and out and here's some pics!

If the injectors are the originals, you're almost certainly going to have to replace them.

I had a stumble/hesitation in my 1990 also. Did the injectors, 02 sensors, oil lines, oil sensors etc. In the end, the biggest culprit ended up being the fuel pumps. Very easy change, you can do it in less than an hour without much effort. Relatively cheap part too. made a WORLD of difference getting those old dissolving rubber lines out of there.

Great looking car!

If the injectors are the originals, you're almost certainly going to have to replace them.

Thank goodness the previous owners kept a binder full of complete service records. According to the records, on June 2013 a new seal set for injectors and new injectors were installed with complete vacuum lines, new coil packs and LT5 plug wires from fuelinjectorconnection.com. Thanks for mentioning that though because it made me dig through the records to see if they were placed. They have indeed been replaced. I called Corvette of Tampa to elaborate on what they think is going on and they said that if you let a c3 or c4 vette sit, it develops condensation in the tank for the fuel and you end up with a lot of water in the tank and they are trying to run that through the system. We'll see what happens. They are having me add this fuel additive called Sentry which is made for marine engines. I'll let you guys know if this ever improves. You guys are a HUGE help and very informative. Thank you!

Yeah that's good news on the injectors. If their theory on condensation is accurate, the bigger concern would be rust in the tank, sending unit, pumps, etc. There are experts on here that will chime in to help with that. Good luck.

S.hafsmo
02-22-2018, 02:11 PM
I'd prefer to remove the pump/sender unit and pump out any water at the bottom, rather than using any isopropanol. You don't want all that water/gunk going through your system.

It also gives a good opportunity to check the above mentioned pumps/strainers/rust.

Don’t be surprised if you find a mess in the tank. I’ve seen very low mile Z’s with completely rusted pumps and hardware. It’s not a factor of mileage as much as time and whether the tank was kept filled or empty. Once empty or even just low, condensation is your foe.
