Anybody use them? If so,any reasonably priced ones out there? The cordless ones look nice......Had one many many years ago...Was interested in getting one for the Z...

Belltronics in the truck. Goes off all the time, so much so that I ignore it. Pretty useless.
Valentine V1 in the ZR-1, much better.

After years of experimenting, perhaps the best way to make best time (I find), point to point and not get a ticket[-X...is the CRUISE CONTROL. No kidding.

If you are serious about passing everyone out on the highway like I do you need to spend some coin on a top detector. Ticket costs have gone up, even for 35MPH zones. A good one will pay for itself if you are a ticket collector in the Z.

I recommend

There are cheaper units out there, but nothing as good as the Escort series with live updates.

Great advice Paul! Usually keeping your eyes open and down the road helps as well.

Valentine V1, I have 2. One for each Vette. Just sent one back to Valentine for the latest update. Modern detectors do a much better job of minimizing false signals. Even the wife has the last of the Beltronics in her car. Saved us from tickets countless times. Here in the wide open spaces of the west the Valentine One’s range is unparalleled.

This will give a good overview of current top models.

On this note, please be careful. Speed doesn't kill, the difference in speed does.
Everybody goes 100, nobody dies. 1 person goes 100 while the rest of traffic goes 50.....

It may not answer the OP’s question, but I agree w Paul. These days 80mph or just under and I can drive by a trooper with little concern. That and I usually drive in stealth mode sticking to the right lane as much as possible.

Unless you are driving an “Arrest Me Read” Corvette. My neighbor police officer says they love to chase down Vettes, and they know we can afford the ticket.

BTW - right lane stealth mode is well known by police and you still stick out against those minivans. It does help in a court case if you get bagged by a laser and the cop is in the median. Accuracy of lasers are close to straight on and deteriorate at increased angles.

Why do u think I drive a Black Rose car? I try slipping into the radar shadow of larger vehicles as well. No front license plate.

No front license plate.

Good point when discussing lasers. They need as much flat hard frontal area as possible to work properly. Our cars have very little of that. If I’m not mistaken police are taught to aim for the license plate. Although in some localities going without a front plate is problematic.

In my 30+ years here in Illinois, I have been stopped by a trooper ONCE for no license plate. No ticket however. He was a Vette enthusiast and just told me I should watch it. :proud:

What Paul said^^^^^^. I use cruise control all the time, even around town. Set it at 5-6 over in a 30 zone. Dede got a ticket a couple years ago doing 37 in a 30 zone locally. Having said that, I never drive anywhere without my Valentine 1, although I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times it has really saved me from a ticket. I like it for warning me of upcoming construction zones (most have radar emitters on the warning signs) and where the Smokeys are waiting. Have had a V1 since the mid 90s. Swap it between cars, both are hard wired for it. V1s are consistently rated tops. I renew the software ever 5 years of so if they say it is recommended.--Bob

Absolutely agree-speed doesn't kill, variance does. But a higher speed can make a given accident much worse. I suggest using a V1 to be aware of upcoming construction zones and who's out there taking pictures, but cruise control set to flow with traffic for safety and ticket avoidance. Be careful out there....Bob

I use Waze and a Radenso XP. The Radenso XP has WAY better filtering to eliminate most of the false (especially from new blind spot monitoring systems), so when I get an alert I actually pay attention to it. I also have a 9500ix and new Escort IX in other cars, and have turned K off completely on those as they are useless for it due to falsing. Those are in cars that only get driven around DFW, so it doesn't really matter as nobody LE in the area use K. Honestly though, Waze has saved me as much/more as my detector has for the past few years, but using both is the best protection.

I've got two Valentine 1's both need to go in for the software update. I will say this about 2 years ago I got a ticket. I ask the cop if he was using a different band than K he said no. I told him my detector Never went off. He said another motorist he ticketed earlier said the same thing. I don't have an explanation but it happened.

Valentine and Passport products are always reliable, owned both. But do not overlook the new tech from Uniden...very impressive for the money and have one in my ZR-1. I live in TX, so radar's are a must here.

I have a Passport. I like it; Has saved me much more than it cost. It helps to keep your eyes open and looking down the road. Night is a crap shoot! Only been stopped once when using it. Hwy patrol. He was flipping his gun on and off. Good fellow, never gave me a ticket for 20 over. Good Luck!:flag:
