Apparently our cars are getting older. My car is able to get Antique plates in IL. I opted for Expanded antique. Allows full use with no restrictions during our fun months..

I really wanted ‘ZR WON’ but was already taken.. so I had to settle for:

Checked the cost.. it was $145~ to get the new plates (being vanity). They are different classification from passenger so you cannot directly switch for less money

Yearly renewal is $58

So is this available for 25+ year vehicles? As a 92, mine should be eligible I would think.

Yes 25 or older. A little pricy to swap plate type, but much cheaper to renew from then on.

Dom,

if you intend to switch.. keep the following in mind:

Vehicles displaying these plates during the months of January-March and November-December may only be driven to and from an antique auto show or exhibition, service station or demonstration.

Vehicles displaying these plates during the months of April-October may be driven on the highways without being subject to the restrictions of a standard antique vehicle plate.

Just curious.... how is your car being supported? the left rear jack stand appears to show space between it and the car. Is there something that we cannot easily see in the picture.
I am guessing it is pure ZR-1 Magic!
Thanks!

I was told the same thing by my insurance company. I'm only supposed to drive my Z only so many miles a year, and with those plates it would limit it further.....and as many " safety" road blocks the State police set up down here, its just not worth the hassle for me. I love the look of the plates but love driving my Z when I want to lol.

Only months I would potentially have a problem would be March and November..

I wonder if driving it to a friends garage to use the lift is considered a service station..LOL

I do that w my insurance agent. Let them know I am taking car out for gas or service. That way they have my request to initiate coverage in case something happens.

Hi Marty is
Being as we are down under and up sides down we only need the stands to keep the car form floating away

Oh---A low blow, that was. It was, according to him, merely a bit of "operator error".--Bob

I like the fact that you can get "king of the hill" at the bottom. Cool to be on an official government plate. We just can get our state's name.--Bob

Nice!

Lots of good license plate combinations left with the Illinois
Expanded Use Antique plates.

Got a cool one also for my 62 BelAir.

Yeah, they handle real well when on the ground, but "stick and rudder" control leaves a bit to be desired!;)

Did antique plate on my 91 in Texas. Cheaper ($50 for five years), but we can't get personalized on antique. On the up side, no inspection or emission testing required on antique vehicles. Also, only run rear plate (unlike normal front/rear in TX) and don't need registration sticker on windshield. TX isn't too bad for driving antique vehicles either. Supposed to be used for exhibitions, club activities, parades or other functions of public interest. And may be driven to and from a location for routine maintenance.

In GA I have a veteran's tag on my ZO6. No personalization but the price is right. Totally free for life - no charge for tag, no renewal fee, and no annual ad valorem tax - I stop by the tag office on my birthday each year for the free sticker.
