ISO new wiring harness for 1990 ZR1 and all hoses where can I buy this without it costing more than the car is worth? pac rats got into my engine compartment and ate through all the hoses and wires while I was one on vacation. I dont have insurance coverage for that and not sure what to do as it may cost more to fix this old car than just hauling it off to the junkyard. ANY ideas? please help! This was my first ever Corvette I owned since new and I am so heartbroken over this loss. I am in Phoenix Arizona.

If you need a dash harness as well LMK I have the entire unit to include the skeleton for a 90 ZR-1. I don't have the engine harness however I am local.

Assuming it is a Non Electronic AC car that will work..

Forward body harness should be the same as a standard C4.. the engine harness will be specific obviously (and 1 year only)

1300 is too much for a harness I remember seeing new for $500 but lost the link to that parts supplier

oh wow! yes thats my car, no its not for sale! last time I started the car was 2005 and that is when the rats chewed the wires up. Due to hitting hard times I couldnt afford the repair. I would like to try to get it running. Car has always been in garage has 30k miles on it. The part that worries me most is sitting so long w fuel not being started, I highly doubt its not savable and only for scrap.

they sounded too similar to not be related (but who knows) also the posts were around the same time. I think that there was more of a feel that it was likely to be sold on that forum and the talk got away without enough information. it might be salvageable but the cost might be prohibitive, it is really up to you.
whatever happens if you do decide it is too far gone please try to give someone a chance to at least offer or counter whatever a yard is willing to give you for it. while it might not make economic sense, someone might be willing to save it just as a labor of love.

How bad was the chewing? Is it limited to under the plenum or behind where the main harness runs ? Or is it the ecm area and everything?

I spoke to her earlier she doesn't know however feels it's prob bad under the plenum and beyond. I told her to hope for a part out unless somebody has a MY 90 engine harness they want to sell. Hopefully I will get a few photos soon. She does have the electronic AC so the one on eBay is a no go. GC

Just makes me wonder if the harness can be repairable. I’ve see a chewed harness get fixed up in a matter of hours just soldering wires back together and heat shrink stuff. Under the plenum isn’t very complicated once you get familiar with it all there’s plenty of info pics and diagrams out there to get an idea of what goes where etc. just typing my thoughts out loud :)

Anyway to get some pictures of the damage? did the mice/rodents get inside the car as well?

Maybe it is just confined to under the hood.. I would hate to see a Yellow car go away due to the harnesses..

No idea I haven't seen the car or the pictures yet. The wiring harness may be the tip of the iceberg as we all know the fuel pumps, injectors, water pump etc all will have to be replaced as well. After 13 years of sitting a lot of ugly other possibilities as it was not prepped for storage

At present, we have engine harnesses for all years, some new & some used. I've just never listed them in the webstore. No photos up yet, just listings for the 90 models only.

Comp covers damage from mice on insurance, if you have any physical damage coverage at all it would be covered.....only way it wouldn't be is if 1)you didn't have insurance or 2)if you had liability only on the car.......

typically when in storage the vehicle liability is suspended and comp/col stays on

Did anybody click on this link that mjn76 posted? So, 2 people with Yellow 1990 ZR-1s that have been sitting in garages forever and need restoration from mice damage both joined different Corvette forums on the 1st day of November and made their 1st posts on the same day asking for advice on the same issue? Hell of a coincidence.

Chris the corvette forum post according to Judy was from her husband. She authored the ZR-1 Registry post. What's strange is she has not reached out to Jerry yet I texted her yesterday.

So Chris that is what's going on. GC

Had a feeling it was something like that or a son/daughter asking, some things don't make sense but the story is relatively consistent, it sounds like she wants to keep it more than he does but might not be willing or able to do what needs to be done to save it. she says that 1300 is too high for a harness, I can't imagine that the cost to have it installed it would be inexpensive and it sounds like that is the route that she would need to go rather than d.i.y.
still I would love to see/hear more about how this ends up if its real.
also im gonna try to get a new thread started about this car in the hypothetical to see how others feel about a car like this

this will set you back $1300
any chance this is the same 90 Zr-1 (yellow) from the other forum?

Do business here at your own risk, not a reputable seller. A used harness can be found at a fraction of that price.

Regardless of the outcome here I hope this car is saved,in the garage out if the sun did something to save the car.

I've restored a C4 from EXTENSIVE mouse damage, and so glad I did. I repaired all of the wiring harnesses that were damaged, and went through the cleaning process for each piece of interior plastic and carpet. You'd never know there was ever any damage when I finished, let alone the extent of it.

If you would like to discuss what is involved, I'll be glad to share my experience. Feel free to PM or email me at president@zr1netregistry.com.

Regards,
Mark

I get the feeling that she wanted to fix it more that the husband did but didn't realize the cost that would be involved. it seemed that everything was going to needed to be done at a shop so the repairs would have cost much more than they might have been willing to put into it. again just a feeling no first hand knowledge but if you go back and read what they posted it leads to them either putting it back in storage or parting it out due to cost.

The owner told me she want to get it running as she was heading to the east coast mid next year. Her thoughts it would be easier to get it on a trailer.

I have not heard from her since so I cant really comment further. She has my phone number and I gave her parts advise and a mechanic's name. Maybe that's all she wanted. No idea.
