What do you guys do at a car show when you have the hood up. I believe the lamps come on via a mercury switch. Is there any way to turn them off, apart from wiring a switch in somewhere. Same with the interior lamps behind the seats, they come on when the rear hatch is up. Sorry for my ignorance but I’m a newbie to the c4 zr1 scene.

Under hood unplug connector wires to light!
I never leave back hatch open!

Install LED bulbs. I have had my hood open for 12 + hours. Very little amp draw.

Pull the fuse down by the left cornering lamp. As for the rear hatch I have an extra latch I got from a junk yard from a broken rear glass.

I leave mine unplugged.
There are inline switches available.
Use LED's.

I switched to LED bulbs. I also bought a switch from Mid America...

Re the hatch: if you have one of those hatch window props (holds the hatch open about an inch while driving) I wonder if just sticking it in the latch wouldn't work?

I pulled the fuse years ago.

You need the all in one piece and I am not sure it will work. I never tried it

Thanks for the feedback on those issues. Firstly, l will change globes to LED (good idea). Secondly, the rear hatch. I have read somewhere about the device that holds the hatch up a little. I’m guessing that’s to allow air to flow out if driving with no roof?? Are they available from the usual vendors like Zip etc?
Found them on Corvette Central site. Thinking of doing a group buy for us c4 owners in my group here in Australia. Can someone confirm that they are a good thing and work as intended before I go ahead.
Cheers, Russell

I changed to LEDs and installed the hood light bypass sold by most of the part houses. This way when you want the lights on you don't have to unplug or plug in the lights. Just a simple toggle and they are off or on when you want.

I have owned C4 corvettes since 1993. I have owned the hatch vents since 1993. It is rare for me not to have the hatch vent in the rear window. They are great

I have the Rear Hatch Vent Bracket. It is great for airflow and turbulence in the car with the windows down. Also you can really hear your exhaust while driving. The stick on mirror deflectors also improve the windows open driving experience.
I welded a wing nut on the hold down screw that goes through the Hatch Latching Bracket. Makes it super easy to take on and off. You don't need to break out the Torx Corvette Ratchet to install.
My only concern with the Rear Hatch Vent Bracket is traveling over super rough pavement. I could see a scenario where you hit a very large jarring bump and the Hatch could be stressed to the point of shattering. With the Hatch completely closed that force is spread over the entire weatherstrip area versus just the glass where the latch bolts through.

I like the idea of welding a wing-nut to the screws.
Anyway, I got mine from Mid America Motorworks (MAM). It has the plunger that turns off the interior lights, something the "wire loop" thingies don't do.
Cheers!
PS: I tried to attache a photo, but for some reason the site won't paste it this morning.

Swapped the under hood globes for LEDs. A whole $7.00 for both and what a difference it made. Looks much better, is brighter and achieves the low current draw result. Got all excited and decided l will swap all the interior globes to LED as well. Question: the footwell lamps, do they just pop out?? I want to do the door trim lamps and the mirror/map lights as well.

The only bulbs you can't replace with LEDs are the small mood lights in the doors and mirror. I have LEDs everywhere else inside my ZR-1. Much brighter.

Footwells will pop out, but be sure you know which end pops out. Door trim are also good to swap.. here is what I swapped with the cool White LED on my interior
-Footwells
-Door Lamps ( except the small light orange lights on with parking lights)
-Rear view mirror ( except the small orange down light on with parking lights)
-Cargo Hatch

Without using any tools as such, l tried to pop the footwell lens out by just fingernails, but it didn’t seem to move. Didn’t want to break it so left it until l asked the question on here. Is there a particular side of the lens that pops out first. 27year old plastic makes me nervous when told to “ just pry out with screwdriver “ especially if there is a particular side that has to come out first.
Any advise appreciated 🇦🇺

Hey Mate! You need to pull the whole panel the lenses are not meant to be pryed off. Once the panels are down the bulbs go in from behind

Hey Jeff
I dropped the panel on the pass. side to gain access to the globe. It’s like a festoon but without the metal caps, instead the glass is pinched and a wire loop out either end. Did you find an LED version of that or did you modify a capped LED festoon. I can’t find that type of globe in LED?

They make that type of LED but I have only seen them in the complete LED conversion kits. However it's the same style in the console as well. Try super brightleds.com what you are looking for is little circuit board with 3 or 4 SMDs with wire loop ends. GC

Anyone want to share the exact bulb used for the under-hood LED lights and a source if possible?
Many thanks!

Good to know the console globe is the same, as I reinstalled the footwell panel without measuring the length of the globe. Thought I might just buy another pair of festoon LEDs, same as under hood @ $7.00 pair and solder on the wire loops either end. Easier and probably cheaper
So far, changed to LED, and love the result

One of my (newest favorite) sources is SUPERBRIGHTLEDS.COM (https://www.superbrightleds.com/search/led-products/4210/).
The under hood lights in particular are the FESTOON style, and the length to be aware of is 42mm; the link will take you to the under hood lights available.
More later!

Spent $15 for white LED kit from Blacktop Racing. They're fine, probably not the brightest out there, but notable improvement over stock incandescent bulb. Found the passenger side plastic backing for the fixture was heat damaged though and had to be replaced, so ended up spending more than $15, but happy I can now use my Underwood light.
