For the 427 build I have underway will be going with 41.9 mm intake valves to increase air flow for feeding the the additional displacement. Here are a few photos of the work in progress for fitting the larger valves:

Target combustion chamber size is 43.6cc which results 12:1 static compression ratio. For comparison stock combustion chambers run around 39cc. The "clover leaf" shape of the stock chambers severely shrouded the larger intake valve and was removed to allow for better airflow, especially at lower cam lift. Also radiused the area around the outside of the exhaust valves to take full advantage of the larger cylinder bore diameter.

You do amazing work Phil.....great to have that talent to perform those tasks....will be anxious to see and hear the results of your build.....:)

Does anyone know if a 3D solid works (or similar) file exists for the LT 5 head? Would be very useful for designing modifications..

Excellent Phil. Looks like the Gen III chamber a bit. Hope the airflow numbers meet your target too.
That's the ticket  What metal seats will you be using ?

Will be using a Super Flow SF600 flow bench. Had to make this slider plate out of 1” acrylic plate to adapt the LT5 head to the flow bench testing port:

All set to do some serious flow testing to see how the porting work and bigger intake valves perform.

Love those velocity stacks & 3" primary tubes. Are you building a new GT car? Individual cylinder throttle body w/injector? Just kidding of course, but with you there's no half-stepping!
Awesome work Phil!

Jerry,
Glad you like my home made velocity stacks.
Found them at Home Depot in the the plumbing department PVC pipe fitting section for $1.79. A little time on the lathe and Voila! Shop vac floor attachment tube was the donner for the primary exhaust extension pipe. Though it appears to be larger ID measures 2”

Ran the flow test this morning
Here is the head mounted up on the SF-600 flow bench with test engineer Justin getting ready to hit the switch:

Happy to report the achieved flow numbers were inline with expectations so the larger intake valves and additional porting work paid off. Was especially pleased with the flows at lower intake valve lift points. The shop that performed the test had never seen a LT5 head before and was very impressed. Said it was right up there with the best SBC LS aftermarket heads they've tested on a 4.125" cylinder bore.

That is awesome !! Can’t say I’m all that familiar with LT5 flow numbers but have seen a few that aren’t that high that’s for sure ! Any before numbers or any stock numbers for reference ? Would be cool to graph it just for comparison purposes
Great Job Phil.
Numbers look almost identical to the ones i have done 15 years ago with stock valves.
Just for comparison.
