Hello all. Was getting my 2018 schedule together and was hoping to add Mountain Run 6 to my list. Anyone yet come up with dates or plans for this fantastic event?

ask and ye shall receive ....
yes, we will have MR6. as you can imagine we're still working on the details ... actually, we started discussing it in the parking lot the final night of MR5.
MR6 will be May 13-16, 2018. May 16 (Wed) will be the run to BG for the C4 Gathering that starts on May 17. May 13 (Sun) will be the arrival date/driver's meeting, etc. In discussion is the possibility of arriving on Sat, May 12 in order to have more time running the mountain roads and seeing the sights. The format will be similar although we're looking at ways to create smaller touring groups in order to make the experience even better.
When we have all the info locked down we will start a new thread in this forum as well as email the info to everyone who has ever participated in a mountain run.
Thanks for asking ... and for reminding us to get the word out.

Yes! These driving events have proven to be very popular, and barring catastrophe, MR6 will happen!
Typically, the MRs are held beginning with the driver's meeting on Sunday (typically Mother's day) evening and the MR6 will take to the twisties on the following Monday morning and end up in Bowling Green on Wednesday of the C4 gathering week at the pizza n beer welcoming meet (typically at the Holiday Inn University Plaza).
Gunny and Robert do most of the route planning and arranging hotel rooms etc. Scouting the routes goes on year-round, but doesn't really start to "gel" until after the holiday season, and especially after the snows leave the roads in spring soze they can be checked out ahead of time. By March end the preliminary routes have been discussed and by end of April the routes are largely scouted out and disseminated to those indicating their hopes for participating.
It is a heck of an effort - largely thanks to Gunny to put all the pieces together for one of these events. If you haven't been on one of these Mountain Runs, you really ought to try to make it to one!
And, speaking of Mountain Runs, there is a Rocky Mountain Run (aka RMR) committee in place (has meet a couple times now) that is looking into putting together a "shake down cruise" sometime next summer. Being part of that committee (RMR and the MR6 too) I can tell you the excitement is quite high among us all at the prospects of an RMR 2018.
Understand tho that details are in the very formative phases right now. But, there's been talk of choosing somewhere the Denver Co area or one of the ski resorts maybe used as a potential location for a base of operation. Nothing has been decided at this time So, don't make any firm plans on RMR 2018: To be announced...as it were!

to whet your appetite go to my website ZRWON.com (http://www.zrwon.com)
The opening slideshow consists of six photos that change every hour ... more photos (as in a LOT more) can be found by clicking INDEX on the top menu. Those who have been on at least one MR will recognize most of the photos .... those who have never been on a MR can expect to experience the roads in those photos. Enjoy.
You can also click INFO on the top menu and email me directly from there.

Count me in for the RMR! I lived in Castle Rock CO, for 5 years and know the area well. Are you going to try and time it with attending Vettes on the Rockies in Dillon? Great event on its own.

One hotel this year, it is right in the center of all the mountain ranges.

Yes, that gathering did come up in conversation. The issue might be conflict with Carlisle - as Dennis and others are involved and can't do both. But, we'll leave it on the table, as nothing is decided as yet.
That said, Dillon Co might be a great place to use as a base of operations, visa vis the MR runs in the Appalachians. Food for thought!

Vettes on the Rockies is scheduled for August 23-26 which is the same as Carlisle. It is actually at Steamboat Springs after several years at Winter Park. This event has become more of a Looking Glass Corvette Association event and for several years was closed to the public. Now LGCA members have the first chances to register for the event (Sign up period Jan-Feb) then the general public has a chance after that for limited spots. It says they anticipate a waiting list. So your best bet to attend is to join LGCA.
I believe the dates we were thinking about were in July and would coincide more with Blackhills Corvette Classic rather than Vettes on the Rockies.

Dillon, is a great location, right off the freeway and central to some great mountain driving. Breckinridge, about 10 miles further into the mountains down the same road is also good. I would stay away from Vail it’s too pricey even in the off season. Let me know if you guys need any help.
