For anyone w an Pioneer AppRadio4 using CarPlay, the most recent iOS 11 update has created an incompatibility for Pioneer. They are supposed to be working on it, but I updated my iOS to 11 earlier this week. Now no CarPlay.
So if u have an AppRadio and use CarPlay, keep using iOS 10 until the issue is resolved.

Is there a way to go back to iOS 10?

Prob a problem with the no text driving feature. I have not upgraded yet because it was supposed to be messing with my work iphone apps as well. We were all warned not to update as well. Thanks Dom hopefully they will work it out soon

Yes....there are other Applications that the message "The developer of this app needs to update it to work with iOS 11" appears.

And yes.......the no text driving feature is there for which you can click "I am not driving" to bypass :D

GC,

Yeah I thought it might have something to do w the Do Not Disturb feature. Given that I’m not working, I didn’t get the memo on updating.

Did you register your unit with Pioneer I remember an email about it with an incompatibility ?

Dom, my son suggested if there is an unpair feature to try that, then re connect it, but it may be deeper an issue than that

FWIW I have CarPlay on my 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander as standard equipment. IOS 11 is working fine there. Yours must be a Pioneer Issue. I have to say I would not buy another Pioneer. I have one in my C6 (no CarPlay) and the UI is clunky at best.

Hans,

Yes, Pioneer is declaring that it is an issue on their end. As for the GUI, given that the AppRadio mimics your iPhone desktop, I have found it to be pretty easy to navigate. The use of Siri makes it even more so.
I love the ability to use my TuneIn Net Radio app, particularly when having to drive through the Bible Belt.

Yeah, I like CarPlay too. Just wish they would expand the available apps. I would much rather use Waze than the surprisingly user unfriendly Apple Maps.

Even android auto is limiting.. I just got an Alpine. No car play or android auto but the audio quality will be better than my android radio. I will have Bluetooth connectivity too

Jeff,

The idea of audio quality in an automotive audio system is a bit of an oxymoron.
Especially when dealing w the ambient sound environment of our ZRs. I’m hoping I can recognize the song frankly. However, I do appreciate the added functionality that the AppRadio and CarPlay give me.

Agreed. But the android unit I have is just terrible.. the brand names , Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, pioneer are all decent for a car. The Chinese android unit was subpar

I have Dom's "old" Pioneer head unit (thanks, Dom) ... haven't had time to install it in my Z but hopefully soon.

In the meantime I need to replace the radio in my '03 F150 and could use some guidance/recommendations. I'm looking for something reasonably priced that can display my Android GPS (prefer to not pay for built in GPS). Not interested in CD but ability to play MP3 from thumb drive or phone would be great. Looked at a Sony ($399) at Best Buy yesterday - seems to have OK reviews but my knowledge curve of these devices is way behind. Any help greatly appreciated.

Gunny,

I really liked the Sony, there were a few things keeping me from it one being an updated version with a bit more function is due out soon.

The Alpine ILX-207 is a nice mechless receiver for Android Auto and Car Play. It is a bit pricey. I was considering that unit ( alpine) but decided on a different alpine (W960) with CD and built in Nav. The one i got was used for under $300, so it is good enough for me until Both Car play and Android Auto step up their game. They both need to offer Waze with their car functions.. for the amount i will use nav ( and the amount I drive the Z) I think the radio I got will work fine.. I can run Apple Music through bluetooth and I have USB stick with music on it and no issues. I also have the XM tuner if I decide I want that too

Well here’s an update all. CarPlay is now working on my AppRadio4. Don’t ask me how. I did nothing that I know of. But its working flawlessly w iOS 11.
