Hi all! I started having some "unrelated" problems a few weeks ago concerning the secondary injectors and fuel pumps and got that sorted out and today I had a top flight Corvette tech look at the car and he determined that I need to replace the ECM. Now we're on a search for an ECM for my '91 though I know that they're nearly impossible to find. Has anyone here had theirs refurbished and if you have can you recommend a good company?
I'd again appreciate any help from out there!

See if u can swap urs out for someone else's first. On what basis did ur top flight tech determine that u had a bad ECM?

If you find you have issues with your ECM contact Marc Haibeck. I believe he had a couple repaired

What problem are you having that they feel the ECM needs changed out?

Looks like Rock Auto has one. Remember all year ZR-1 units work in all cars per Marc Haibeck.

For 240 bucks, I could always use a spare. But I'm wary.

Thanks for the advise and sorry it took me so long to get back but I had to go out of town for a few days. It turned out to be the PROM which had gone south. I had a Hiabeck PROM from several years ago before some engine work. We plugged it in and the poor running issues vanished. The old girl is back and bad assed! I did find a used ECM but the seller couldn't tell me a thing about it other than it came out of a running ZR. I also found that Volunteer Corvettes offers refurbishing services for our ECM.

You all did come through for me again and I can't say how much I appreciate you!! Thanks!

Been suspecting I might have a problem with my ECM too on my 1991. Do you guys know if Marc Haibeck would be able to check if my ECM is OK if I send it too him?

It is a little pricey at $800, but there is an ECM on ebay right now.
An old stock refurbished part from AC Delco.

But if you absolutely need one, you don't have a lot of choices.

Hi all,

I had an ECM failure in my car a few months ago. Radiator fans would come on with key in ignition, car would start but would die unless giving it gas. Sent my ECM to Marc and he confirmed the ECM was dead. Sent emails to a few companies who offered a ZR1 ECM repair service but did not hear back from any (maybe given I live in Australia). I ended up finding one in the USA by positing a wanted add on this forum. Plugged it in and she fired right up (was a big relief). Good luck with your search!

How about installing a mega squirt ecm in the car, like some forum members did.
If that works proper it’s a replacement for our ecm’s ?

If that works proper it’s a replacement for our ecm’s ?My car has been running with a MS3Pro (often referred to as Megasquirt) for the past 2 years. I'm happy with it.

I think the cost of the MS3Pro is around $2,000, and you gain and lose functionality. I haven't given a second thought about the missing dash functions, but I certainly understand how some ZR-1 owners would want them.

I'm surprised the ebay refurbished NOS computer hasn't been picked up yet. If I had $800 laying around I'd be tempted to buy it and sell it later for a little profit. I would have thought it's worth $1,000+ (but maybe it isn't, since it hasn't sold at $800). If someone has a ZR-1 worth $20-30K and it's not running well (or at all), and it's because their 25yo ECU is messed up, an $800 fix would be worth a lot more than $800 (imho).

Russ, Exactly what were the functions that were lost using the MS3PRO ?

Russ, Exactly what were the functions that were lost using the MS3PRO ?I can't say exactly, but Jeff's reply sounds correct.

It seems like it was the whizzy/cool stuff, like current and average MPG. All of the basic stuff works well (fuel level, tach, trip odomenter, MPH, etc.).
