1990 ZR1, 6400 miles. Has a non original oil filter on it so the oil has been changed at least once. Not sure what type oil is now in it.
What is the best oil to use for an oil change? Filter?
Thanks for the opinions, John

I am not sure if the oil currently in the car is a synthetic. Is there a problem with any residual oil in the engine mixing with the Mobil 1?
Thanks guys for the advice.

There is a good chance the previous owner used a synthetic as most people who own low mileage ZR-1's do not skimp on maintenance. There will be some old oil in the system since you can not get it all to drain. However if you want to be sure there is no regular oil then drain it over night, replace with synthetic then change it again within a short period of time. As to the most common oil used, Mobil 1 is at the top. Here is a poll on the filters forum members are using.

JRD, I had the same Q when I got mine as the orig owner didn't believe in syn oil for the car. I just changed the oil & filter and let it go for the usual 3K miles/3mos and changed it again. I had no strange noises nor did anything negative occur. 14K miles later everything is still okay!

most synt. oil are compatible with mineral oil...you cant remove all the oil in your engine with an oil change,so my amsoil rep said you run full synthetic only on the second oil change...makes sense...
