I had a self induced mess up over the weekend cutting the angle a little too sharp and touched the garage door opening. Lucky no body damage other than breaking the 3-1/2" trim piece at the front of the rear quarter panel. Ecklers sells this and shows it fits our cars but other sites show it for all C4's except ZR-1. Anybody know if the normal C4 piece is the same as ours?
Thanks

Too many "Rusty Nails", eh? :o Or, mebby I have!
I'm having a little trouble envisioning zackly what 3-1/2" piece you're referring to... Are you talking about the little piece of BELT trim between the door and the forward side of the wheel well? :icon_scra A picture might help.

Lost paint on the leading edge of the tire opening about 2" but the trim piece took the hit

Paul, good thing Rusty Nails were not involved or I would have brought down the whole garage and not just tapped the opening!

I believe Phil did something with these dog-leg moldings for '91+ cars.. A molding or just a retainer enhancement I don't recall but he should be along I'd think later.
I actually believe I may have a RH dog-leg molding for a '91+
I'll look later.
They are very different.

I just spoke to the parts department at my local Chevy dealer and they said the regular C4 has part number 10146490 and the ZR-1 has part number 10135980. You also need the 2 nuts 11516066 but hopefully I can reuse the ones on the car. If anybody has suggestions, let me know.
Thanks

Charlie,
As you have discovered, that trim piece is ZR-1 specific. I know Phil had one by creating a mold but not sure which side or both sides.
Talk to Phil. Also, if you have saved the broken piece, I may be able to remove left over piece from the car, JB weld broken piece, sand and refinish. Do you have both pieces?

Charlie,
Sorry about the bad luck. I went through the same quarter molding scavenger hunt a while back and came up with zilch. In my case I needed the drivers side which got caught on my trousers belt while existing the car. Thanks to Dave Johnson I now have a good doner from the passenger side to pull a mold from which I have been meaning to do anyway. Give me a few days and I'll have one ready for you.

Thanks Phil and Yun,
My wife would like to move back to New England in a few years but no way am I leaving Wazoo land! Thanks so much. Heading to West Africa on Saturday for 10 days and back on the 26 so no rush. I think we are going to have a WMD on the 29th or 30th and I will make a batch of BBQ pulled pork. See you soon.

Phil,
When you make the piece hand it over to me at C&C. I will chase down a can of correct spray paint and have it finished for the next WAZOO. I will switch it out with the damaged one. Then, I can repair the damaged one, refinish and send back to Charlie.

The Z part is maybe 1/2 shorter than the non Z part but worst case scenario one can be sectioned and made to work. I'd be curious to know if one can be 3D printed.

I thought I was the only one that could possibly do that, Yun; I did exactly the same thing on the passenger side. I bought the regular C4 set and custom fit it, but the glue I used to put the tail piece on did not hold up, and I lost it somewhere during the Gathering this year. If someone is making replacements, I'd gladly buy a set at Carlisle next month.

I had this same problem about a year ago. I had 0 luck trying to find that piece. What I ended up doing was attaching a normal C4 moulding piece with just one of the two bolts. The holes are spaced differently on the C4 and the ZR1 specific pieces. It's held just fine and I don't think the difference is noticeable.
I posted a picture of the result in the thread.
