NOTE: This Application Requires Notching The Rubber Tabs On Your Saddle Radiator Mounts To Make Them Square. This Is Because The Factory Tanks Are Molded Round And Champion Radiator Tanks Are Fabricated Square. This Modification Can Easily Be Performed By A Qualified Mechanic. Just wondered if it's a good choice or go with the more expensive 2 core I saw for 530 this one's half that.

I believe that this radiator has an automatic transmission cooler mounted in the right side tank. I ordered one many years ago and was disappointed by the baffle that is very close to the coolant outlet port. I returned it for a refund.

You can see the fittings that the transmission fluid hoses would connect to on the right side tank. Of course on a ZR-1 these connections would be unused but the tube and fins heat exchanger is there in the coolant flow path.

I don't know if the cooler in the right side tank actually causes an engine coolant flow reduction, but it certainly can't make the flow better.

Go with the 2 core DeWitts.
Radiator's aren't a place you want to "cheap out"
Eckler's is always $$$!
Got mine at Summit $529, free shipping too!
Fit wasn't too bad.
Change your thermostat and hoses while you're there.

Yes I was starting to head that direction.

Do you have the Summit part number? I can't find it.

I switched to Dewitt double row and never looked back.
Minor modification to fan shroud is necessary.

I am using that 3 core without any issues, but yes you have to modify the shroud for fitament

I installed the 2 row Dewitt now all seems normal. My old one was probably 50 percent plugs!

Look at a Dewitt 2 row core.

PRO-SERIES (2 ROW 1.0" TUBES)

This new aluminum radiator features two rows of 1" tubes and press formed end tanks. This doubles the cooling capacity of the original single row units. This design eliminates failures due to cracked plastic end tanks and/or gasket leaks. This unit fits into the original mounting however GM did not allow any room for a thicker core and therefore it is impossible to make a true Direct Fit[emoji768]. The upper two rubber cushions must be trimmed slightly to accommodate the larger core. We now include spacer plates and hardware so no shroud cutting is required!

About $549, but worth it. There are 3 row cores, but they may need the radiator shroud modified or the fan closures.

Last time my OEM radiator failed, resulting head gasket failure led me down to a mini-stroker build. Twice! Come to think of it, thank you GM! I love the journey I had to take...

What is the best way to remove the cooling hose going from the water pump to the thermostat housing?

I am in the process of changing the radiator out and want to change all the hoses also.

Thanks.

Unbolt the housing from the frame

Sounds simple enough. Will finish it up next weekend. I was not dressed to crawl under the car today! Lol.
