Well, after a month of ownership, we finally had a chance to start tackling paint correction on my Polo Green '94 (I posted before/after pics in Cleaning and Waxing). I was so happy with the results that we did a quick photoshoot with a good friend's '10 ZR1. I must say, they look pretty good together :)

First, the car looks new. Second, I hear a lot about "paint correction". Isn't that just a mix of old-fashioned buffing the paint out really well and painting and sanding any chips, etc?

Thank you so much! That means a lot to me.
I think of paint correction as getting the clearcoat as free from imperfections (swirlmarks, scratches, watermarks, etc.) as possible. Yes, buffing - with the right mix of tools, polishes/compounds, and pads - is how to do it.
Sometimes we wet sand really troublesome spots, but that's only if nothing else works. The important part is remembering that there's only so much clearcoat to work with; when it's gone, it's gone. We try the gentlest polishes first and step up the aggressiveness as necessary.
I would consider rock chip repair and actually adding new paint a different category.
My husband and I ended up having our first date at a local detailing supply shop, so we're both pretty passionate about this stuff :)

Happy update: my husband ended up selling his C5 and '13 427 and buying the ZR1, so these two are now stablemates :)
Here they are at VIR this past weekend - our first HPDE with them - where both performed spectacularly well.

Nice! I'll bet the Vettes enjoyed stretching their legs on that beautiful race course. Owners', too. :-)

Your Polo ZR-1 looks great! I also had paint correction done on my Polo '95. It looked like new paint. Even Tony Gaples (old ZR-1 hand) commented on it at a local car show, asking if I had had it repainted. I had an expert detailer do it (but in my garage) rather than do it myself. I did use Dr. Color Chip about 3 weeks ahead of the correction at the suggestion of the detailer since the correction process does not cure scratches and chips. And I did not put a ceramic coating on it, just the correction. I did put ceramic on the new Z06. Below is a link to my thread on getting it done. --Bob

Yours turned out absolutely gorgeous! Removing scratches and swirls really darkens it and deepens the shine.

Thanks! Yes, lowered on coilovers. The wheels are powder coated originals.

Who'd you get em from? Did you have to shorten the driveshaft?
Nicely done on both fronts

I bought the car fully built and track-prepped, so I don't know the specifics. They are DRM coilovers - http://dougrippie.com/products/drm-c4-coilover-package-with-shocks/ - and Haibeck installed them. Here are the notes from Marc:
“A coilover suspension upgrade was installed. The shock absorbers were reconditioned and revalved to the Moraca valving. The front springs are 550 lbs./inch. The rear springs are 350 lbs./inch. New boots were installed on the front tie rods. Heat shields were installed to protect the boots. The ride height was set with six threads in the front and 12 threads in the rear. When adjusting the ride height the threaded sleeve must be held to prevent rotation.”

Both cars look great....I think Chevy learned a lesson in styling when it comes to the ZR-1..
In my opinion and some may disagree, the styling between a standard C-4 and a C-4 ZR-1 were to close.....looking at a C-4 ZR-1 and a standard C-4 its almost impossible to tell the difference, basically from the side its practically identical...
Look at a C-6 and a C-6 ZR-1 and you can definitely see the difference...Even from the side you will see differences in body panels and wheels....
Even the C-6 Z06 has the cut in the hood and the fender cut on the sides along with wheels that differ from the standard C-6..
In my opinion I feel the slight subtle differences between the C-4 and C-4 ZR-1 were to subtle ..
Could be why prices for C-4 ZR-1s may just very well stay low...Who knows...
