pSometime ago i was asked if the C4 no flex frame stiffener helped with
launching my car when i drag race. After i installed stiffener i could jack
up one side of car and still open both doors. Now it dose control twist and
cowl shake, but no information if it would help drag racing.
Well i my case i believe that it has helped (see pic) the car launches
hard and straight without any twisting of cars frame. Now my car runs
good and the frame stiffener has helped , but there are a lot of other things
that make it run so good.
The car leaves good, but weight transfer was not the best it could be.I
tried disconnecting the front shocks fx3 (remove el connection) and that
helped. When i tried to do the same to the rear shocks found one that was
broken (no stop when gear is turned). My 60ft times then were 1.74 to
1.78. So i removed the fx3 system from car and installed QA'1s single
adjustment shocks front and rear. The car now lunches harder and comes
up without any body/frame flex. My 60 ft times are now 1.64 to 1.70 with
this cooler weather? ( 68-74 deg with humidity between 42-56%) .
Also being at almost at sea level with good track prep makes a big
difference. The car will slow down when it gets warmer this summer.
So right now the car is set up with QA1's front and rear, rear tires are
M/T 315-35-17 S/S at 25 lbs. The 4L8OE transmission has a trans-brake
from jakes transmission installed. The brake is called D3 with forward
shift pattern. When i set trans-brake , i leave at 2600 rpm in 1st (shift\
lever in 3rd) the trans controller shifts at 6500 rpm at WOT from 1st to 2nd
to 3rd. I race 1/8 mile so i do not have to shift at 7000 rpm, shifting lower
puts "less" strain on most of the drive train parts.
A lot racers and spectators ask is that a real ZR-1 and remark you don't
see many Zr-1's on the road let alone at the drag strip.
