View Full Version : Tips for oil pressure sensor?

Hi everyone. I need to replace the oil pressure sensor on the filter housing. The sensor is broken nearly in half and the dash gauge isn't getting signal from it. Any tips on doing this apparently simple job?
It looks like the nearby coolant hose needs to come off in order to get a wrench on the sensor - I don't have a deep well socket deep enough or big enough to remove it from above (seriously, I think the sensor flange is 23 or 24mm, that's huge).

You talking the top sensor for dash gauge?
If so....I could get a 27mm Combination Open End Wrench on the Sensor from just above radiator hose or just under radiator hose.(best just under radiator hose).

Affirmative, the sensor for the dash gauge. Hmm, I'll have to try going under the coolant hose again.
The OIL PRESSURE GAUGE SENSOR is the big one on top, black, about the size of a roll of quarters. Easy to access.
The LOW OIL PRESSURE SWITCH is the hard one to access, unless you just remove the Oil Filter Housing instead of laying on the engine or have long arms & nimble fingers. Just kidding, there are about 3 different approaches to this job.

Sensor, not switch. Coolant hose really didn't want to allow a wrench underneath it, but I will try again. Hope to bypass the plenum and have it off in a few weeks, if not able to replace the sensor by then it will be easy at that time.
Car is in the paint shop this week to have a fender and door repainted. This is a correction of some substandard repairs in the car's past and will surely improve its appearance. Right now the paint is shiny but it's a 10-footer due to the previous work.
Appreciate the tips.

I do not normally do this but.......just for you :thumbsup:
Everyone has a crescent wrench.....which I would try first before the 27mm Combination Open End wrench. The thread is a small pipe thread so relatively easy to remove. You can also try Lisle #13250 found on ebay. Size is 1 1/16", and fits switches up to 2 5/8" long. Just tried mine on the 94 and it fits perfect.

Apparently the 90 uses a 1 3/16" as verified by another member....

Thanks to both for the tips, especially to Dynomite for breaking decorum. :thumbs up: Have ordered Marc's DVD and will lean on the solutions threads heavily as well. Roadster, the socket will be here Friday, appreciate the link and your checking for fit.
The solutions library is a treasure, it looks like I should have known to count on it for the sensor. It sure came in handy with the clutch master and slave a couple of weeks back.
Can't say well enough how much I appreciate everyone for your generosity of spirit - and patience. Ol' 94-0125 has over 170k on the clock and has some needs but is getting love and will soldier on for many more years I hope.
