OK y'all we have some information on the drag racing that needs to be figured out. Please VOTE if you are planning to attend the Gathering this year. DO NOT VOTE if you are not attending (if you do...the poll will be useless).

Basically we have several options. I will lay them out for you. If you sign up for one of these events on the Net Registry website once we decide which option(s) we have chosen, your deposit will be NON-REFUNDABLE.

YOU MAY VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE OPTION...

1.) Drag Racing on May 2nd, Wednesday all day (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) at Beech Bend - we would charge $40 for each driver but would have to guarantee at least 80 drivers signed up for this option. The track rental is $3500.00

2.) Drag Racing on May 2nd, Wednesday 1/2 day in the morning (8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at Beech Bend - we would charge $40 for each driver but would have to guarantee at least 40 drivers signed up for this option. The track rental is $2000.00

3.) Drag Racing on May 2nd, Wednesday 1/2 day in the afternoon (12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m.) at Beech Bend - we would charge $40 for each driver but would have to guarantee at least 40 drivers signed up for this option. The track rental is $2000.00

4.) Drag Racing on May 4th, Friday in conjunction with the NMCA Drag Racers' Test&Tune (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.) at Beech Bend. Unsure of the cost for NMCA drags...probably not more than $50.

5.) Drag Racing on May 5th, Saturday in conjunction with the NMCA Drag Racers (9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.). Again unsure of the cost but probably not more than $50.

I will be attending BG this year sans ZR-1 :( however if someone wants let me drag race their car:blahblah: (yeah right)...I wil gladly pay my $40 or $50:thumbsup: See you there!

I voted Drag Racing 1/2 DAY AFTERNOON at Beech Bend on May 2nd (Wednesday).
Maybe Thursday is unavailable. Or someone has it already rented out , which is very likely.

NMCA has Thursday reserved as well...and it's their "set up day". There's no racing on that day.

The big question is which one wil give us the most track time.

I plan on driving Keiths car.

so get out there and drum up your buddies to COME ON OUT.

friday also has some callaway stuff on the schedule, so it might hurt some participation and it steps on toes as we are trying to make this a ZR-1/Callaway/GS gathering for all the clubs to get the participation numbers up and also enjoy the other marques. Callaway cranked out alot of nice ZR-1s in the day so let's bury the hatchet. they are all cool corvettes and the unity doesn't hurt does it???

we are trying to get enough people to step up and rent the track so it's US with time to run, gun and have fun. this will take some help to get those that haven't done it to step up and give it a try.

extending this invite out to the callaway and GS might help us make our numbers. I'm in for Wed guys, but we need to come up with 2 large to pull it off.

that's quite a few folks coming down early and we need to bust a muv.

if you've never run the zr-1 at the digs. come out, it's a blast and alot of fun. the car is durable and with some coaching, you won't be in too much jeopardy. drive it like you stole it and NOT get busted, where else are you going to do that???

I also hope some folks will come "hang out" on Sat and watch the drags.

if you've never seen the big boys run you are in for a treat. these are low 7 high 6 second machines that go like nobody's biz. not exactly top fuel, but very exciting.

get em out there folks. Uly and the team has been busting hump to make this happen.

lets get some drags at the gathering. put up the $$$!!

we also talked about registry sponsoring some $$. I vote NO because it's using club money when many folks could care less about the digs.

if you guys disagree, we'll put it up for vote on the BOD (board of directors). but I'm sure not going to back a 2k expense so a few folks can run their cars. it's not fair to the club or in our best interests.

Like to hear some feedback there. I'm recommending we just try and go out there and get enough people to split the cost for an afternoon.

2k / 40 is actually 50 per head. but we could make a ton of runs in that timeframe. or if less people are willing to pay a bit more, we GO!!!

the more we get the lower the cost per head.

Uly.

let's email hutch and chris. I'll get that word out and copy this text. the only way to pull this off is to get the word out and get the participation numbers up. I've only seen about 20-30 folks step up to run in the years when we had the digs, so it's a big marketing job to hit 50 folks. we can do it!!

2007 at the Gathering. get the word out, please register, and consider this poll. I think it would really be a great time.

keep the rpms and the shiney side up.

folks,

we are way short and need to drum up support. I know wed is a tough day for most, but it's the only day that can work this year for "Corvette only" drags.

it's $2,000 for even for a half day, so to get the cost reasonable we'll need 40-50 folks that are willing to prepay.

sure hope we can do it!! I think the most realistic is wed afternoon half day unless we get enough die hards that will pony up for all day.

with as many as 50-70 cars, we would be able to make quite a few laps in 5 hours or less.

Well, here's the deal Keith....I can probably get outta that commitment deal but the truth is I might have to sell Blue.:(

I gotta lot going on right now as wifey starts a new business venture 3/1, we're in the process of an Int'l adoption, and my employer is in the process of being acquired by the end of Spring:-({|=

So....a lot of uncertainty for sure. Unfortunately much depends on how things go the next few months. I probably won't know if I can go or not until about 3-4 weeks before the Gathering. 2 things are for sure...whether I get to BG this year or not, I'll remain a member of the Registry....and if I do have to sell my baby, it won't be the last Z that I ever own.

Just wondering, but does that mean it's more for the whole day? It almost reads like 1/2 and whole day cost the same.

Anyway, I'd love to participate in 'vette only drag racing. The NMCA thing doesn't have as much appeal. But what the heck do you all do for 4-5 days there then? I'm pretty sure if I get there Tuesday night, my wife isn't gonna want to hang around Kentucky for 5 days... Would it be lame to go for the drag racing and then leave on Friday or Saturday?

Alright, I'm down for the Wednesday afternoon thing. My wife is pretty easy going about the car stuff, she's not complaining or anything. But I don't want her to be bored out of her mind or anything. We will be bringing two cars, so she could always head out shopping or site seeing or something.

I'm down for wednesday afternoon too. Ron - as far as the money goes, lets see how many interested parties we get. Beyond that, we can always raise some funds or something like that. Keep in mind, if we only have 20 guys, it'll be one HELL of a fun afternoon. I think Rod DeWild and Ry will be interested in coming to this as well. As far as I'm concerned, I'd gladly pay 100 vs. 50 if it means twice as many trips down the 1/4 mile.

What is the official word? Do we have the tracked booked for wed. aft?

Dwight,

I read this forum all the time. I often wonder the same thing, but I always come here first. I would encourage you and all the board members to do the same thing. If this was the forum questions were asked first I think a lot more people would come here.

I won't be in BG this year, maybe next. That is why I didn't post an answer to your question.

Drag Racing in BG in 2007. get the word out. I'd like to drum up 20 or more to make this a reality. I will also talk to the board about some ZR-1 Net Registry Sponsorship dollars so we can rent the track.

I've also posted over at corvette forum. don't be scared. the ZR-1 is a durable beast. don't have to beat it, but have some fun!!

I'll also poll the callaway and GS folks to see if we can get a few.

it will be fun stuff. thanks

otherwise, it's catch as catch can the rest of the week competing with the NMCA boys which won't get you much track time.

we will be running some laps renting the track ourselves.

I put it before the board and want to go forward and reserve it.

How many people are in for the gathering as of right now? I have not yet officially registered, but I have reserved a room at the UP. Who do I have to pay and how much for the drags? My ZR1 is bone stock, however, I might make a couple of passes for the hell of it! This will be my first time coming up there and I'm new to the club so I really don't know anybody but I'm looking forward to it.

we're targeting $40-50 each for an afternoon of "gathering" racing.

the total rental is $2,000 for the afternoon. we're stepping up and going for it.

don't worry about sending the check just yet, we'll confirm that we're able to reserve, and then ask for folks to pay via the store.
