If only I had a 3-car garage and an extra 35K to throw around. Don't know about anybody else but to me, this is the ULTIMATE ZR-1 porn...

No, but I'm sure they're expecting an outrageous number out of it...I'd guess 45 to 50. It's currently at about 28 on eBay. I think 35 is a realistic number in this market. Just an amazing car.

That car won't go below 40-45 unless the seller (owner) is on crack, or needs a transplant.

Well, they're certainly the ones that people ASK a lot for, but I'm not so sure that people are actually lining up to BUY them at premium prices; let's not forget about the 1600-mile red '91 that just sold at Mecum for 21K. I would love to see evidence of any ZR-1s that have actually SOLD for more than 30K in the past couple of years. All that said, I definitely agree that if any Z will command big money, this is the one. It is clearly a very special car.

I agree, but that zr1 at mecum was ROUGH for a 1600 mile car. Engine bay was dirty, rims were eaten up, really a shame.

Quite a few have sold for more than that, just not at auctions, and with Corvette Mike handling it that car will find a buyer likely in the very high forties, even 50+.
Low mile, rare color, final year, as new, are the ones people want and will pay-up to get.
Wish I had it for sale!

And don't forget Chris--you don't have to have a 3 car garage. just a 10' ceiling if your other car is 5' tall like my BMW. If you don't have 10' but there is nothing in the attic, you can also do a little creative carpentry to create enough room...Bob

Oh no, Bob! WHY did you have to suggest this brilliant idea? You may have taken away my last good excuse! ;)

Just doing my duty. And I would be remiss if I did not note that there are plenty of more pictures of my garage setup in my albums section, with comments on things I did (if you enlarge the pics you can see the comments)....Bob

50+? Who would pay that when nobody is bidding against him? I would LOVE to have this car in my garage...it is a masterpiece. But, as I expected, it stalled out at about 30K on eBay and went unsold. It's sad, but anyone thinking this car will bring more than 35K max is dreaming. Aside from the special cars this past weekend, or a car with 3 miles on the clock and plastic on the seats, somebody please SHOW me hard evidence of any Z that has sold for more than 30 in the past couple years. Asking for evidence, and not speculation. If this was truly a 50K car, then look at all the people who have thrown away money by not buying it already.
ZR-1s that have sold for more than 30K? Shall we list them here or shall we start a new thread?

Chris,
I can get a 2014 3lt convertible for $41,000.00.
Is that what they are worth?
Are you selling yours at that price?
If you would LOVE having the ZR-1 for sale, simply write him a check.
See if he takes 30.
Just don't count on it.

That's called diversion, and it's a very childish tactic. I started this thread by stating that I would love to buy that Z, but it's not logistically practical for me to own it. You called it a $50K car, and I asked you to substantiate that. You responded by insulting my car. This is a ZR-1 forum, not a Stingray forum, and I didn't mention my car. Show me a $41K 3LT vert, and I'll show you a $7K ZR-1. Probably best for both of us to stop now, as we're obviously going nowhere with this. However, I would still love to see any examples of ZR-1s that have sold for more than $30K recently, if anyone knows of any...

Chris,
No diversion or insults.
You seem to be the one throwing insults ( re-read your own post).
Moving on however.
There is a 2014 convertible for sale at 41k in Virginia today.
Using your logic, exactly the same as you theorize for ZR-1's, all 14 convertibles must therefore be worth no more than 41k.
That's flawed logic and wrong for both cars.
Your reaction proves my point nicely, thank you.
The fact that some cars sell cheap proves very little.
You not wanting to pay high for a high quality ZR-1 is fine and simply means that you don't, because it's not worth it to YOU.
It may be and has been to others.
Enjoy your car.

These older zr-1's remind me of m5's and Mercedes 55's you can buy them cheap. Unlike most people here working on your own car is becoming a thing of the past and doing your work is the only why they are affordable.

Having recently tested the waters on the market here in CA, I would say that many people are hesitant to buy a 20 year old car that has a reputation for high maintenance (C4's). My observation is that people want and like cars like the ZR-1, but the truth of the matter is that their are some pretty powerful contemporary cars to be had with warranties. I sold my 50k mi '12 Coyote mustang for $18,500. People do cross-shop and compare. People also want perfect paint...which is a tall order on a car made in 1991...
