FUN, INFORMATIVE WEEKEND LINED UP FOR CORVETTE CORRAL AT INFINEON GRAND PRIX OF SONOMA

Corvette owners and enthusiasts in Northern California have the opportunity to be part of a fun and informative Corvette Corral at the July 16-18 American Le Mans Series event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
IMSA, the sanctioning body for the American Le Mans Series, has joined with Corvette Racing, the Western States Corvette Council (WSCC) and the National Corvette Museum to produce the Corvette Corral at the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma.
The weekend will include a Celebrity Choice Car Show Display from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 17. Celebrity judges will include Corvette Racing and ALMS drivers Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell, Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, along with special “guest” drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Boris Said.
Corvette Racing drivers will hold an autograph session at the Corvette Corral from 3:30 – 4 p.m. The first 150 participants will be provided autograph passes on a first-come, first-served basis with Corvette Caravan participants having priority.
Later on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., IMSA Technical Director Charlie Cook will hold an IMSA Tech Session at the IMSA compound, explaining how the Motorsports group tales weights and measurements of cars, inspects the underside of the machines and conducts stall tests.
At 6:15 p.m., IMSA Chief of Pits Dick Martin will speak about pit stop procedures at the Corvette Racing pits on the Infineon Raceway pit road. IMSA Extrication Specialist John Zilles will then demonstrate some of the safety equipment used by the rescue team.
The ALMS race will run from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. Following the race, General Motors VIPs will hold a “meet and greet” at the Corvette Corral, while the Celebrity Choice Car Show Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m.
Corvette Racing has been a strong contender in the GTS class of the American Le Mans Series since the formation of the professional sports car racing series in 1999. Fellows and O’Connell co-drove to the GTS class driving championship in the ALMS in 2003, also helping Chevrolet Corvette win its third straight Team and Manufacturer titles in the process.
Fellows and O’Connell will be going for their fourth consecutive GTS class win in the annual ALMS event at Infineon Raceway, formerly known as Sears Point Raceway. The duo started their winning streak in 2001.
