After driving from Naples, FL to Virginia Beach, I've got to say that was probably the best road trip I've been on. The car is amazing. I cruised at 80 the whole way and it didn't even act like it was trying hard - of course there were a few times I had to make sure the secondaries were still working:D .

Thanks for all the reponses to my orginal newbie questions about buying one, they sure helped.

I'll get some pictures posted once the crap weather in Virginia stops - which may mean springtime.

Congratulations,

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same type of cruise home (although not as far). A friend took me down to Salt Lake City to get mine in a 40th Anniversary Roadster. On the way home I hit 133 (had to let the Beast eat ya know), he said he was in it all the way and my taillights were just disappearing. he has since bought a Callaway so no more of that.

Anyway, looking forward to some pics and more posts on your "Beast".

The funniest part about picking up the car was the test drive. I didn't want to be the guy who wrecks it when he's testing it, so I just gave it some moderate power. I'm thinking "wow, this thing does have some good pull, but I somehow thought it would be faster".

Then I go to drive home and realise I didn't have the key to full power. Funny what difference 125 horsepower makes.

Glad to hear you had a great trip.
My 2,800 mile adventure had the secondaries open up now and then as well.

You should have taken some pictures while you were down in sunny Naples, Fl. Now you will have to wait until May before the weather clears up. You will have plenty of time to clean and buff until then.

Yep, that 125 horses makes a BIG difference. Won't be the last time you forget the key.

Congrats! Good luck with the new toy!

I was thinking the same thing when I first drove mine, "man this pulls strong." The first time I engaged the afterburners I almost swallowed my ears the  was sooo big!:sign10:

These cars truly can cure a bad day! Enjoy! It always amazes me that these cars don't even break a sweat @ most sane highway speeds!

I really enjoyed my drive home from Ohio to Maryland when I picked up my car. I didn't enjoy the police escort I seemed to have often along the route. (Get used to it I know). I had one trooper follow for awhile and I finally pulled off at a rest stop. Took my time. Spoke to a truck driver who was admiring the car. When I pulled back onto the highway, that trooper had also pulled over and had waited for me! He followed me for another 10 minutes or so and then gave up. My brother is a police officer and he even admitted that this guy was a dufus.

Here is a link for buying a used ZR-1 and look through the other parts of the site. Needless to say I'd encourage you to become a member in the coming weeks being a full fledged KOTH owner.

Good luck and let us know how your trip goes.

Funny how some cars migrate from one area to another, and sometimes back again. I bought my 1995 Pace Car in Naples, FL back in December of 2000. Stopped in Orlando for the night, then drove home to IL the next day. When I bought my Z from my Aunt in Orlando, the guy who bought my PC was from Stuart, FL. That worked out pretty good, drove the PC down on Thursday, spent a couple days in Orlando, and drove the Z home Sunday/Monday!

I took the fast way getting there, just rolling the interstates. But on the way home, I stopped off in western NC for the night, and played around a bit on the roads there Sunday night, Monday morning.

Only tip I can give you is Change your Oil, Wash it & Put 2 coats of Wax on Your ZR1 & park your ZR1 next to a ZR1 with 60,000 or less you would be surprise. Welcome to the Family & Enjoy your ZR1.
