Getting my winter to do list together on my 90 Red #0106. My third brake light has not worked since I purchased the car. Trying to determine if its the bulb or switch. I already spend some time under the dash replacing the clutch master cylinder and being 6'1" and 265 lbs didn't enjoy it a lot. My question is does the third brake light up when the parking lights or lights are turned on or only when the pedal is pushed?

Anytime the pedal is pushed

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but mine didn't work and it was the brake light switch. I'm 6'1 220 so I had a dealer mechanic put in a new one...

So the only time it lights up is when the pedal is pushed and is not lite when the lights are on.

Yes.....the only time the high mounted brake light comes on, is when you push the brake pedal. It does not light up when you turn your lights on.

I would say it is your brake light switch, I just replaced mine. It's not a fun job, but taking the seat out makes it much easier!! Be careful though, since I replaced mine, I now have NO cruise control AND my brake lights tend to stay on after I release the brake pedal :( It's a vexing issue I have....

you probably bumped the other brake switch out of alignment causing both issues..

That is what I'm thinking.....

I was convinced my problem was the switch.
How could it be possible that ALL of the HCMSL bulbs could be burned out?
Guess what?
They were all burned out.
Glad I saved myself the aggravation and contortions of trying to replace the switch.
Moral of the story:
Try easy and simple first.
Bulbs burn out.
Replace them and see what happens.

Thanks Marty I took off the rear light but was unable to access the bulbs. I could not get the lens to break loose. Any suggestions on getting it off after 26 years..I don't want to break it.

9 times out of 10 it's the switch. It's not too much of a pain to replace. To get it out after the hush panel is removed the switch just pulls out of the main bracket. To install the new one push it into the bracket as far as it will go and the pedal will stop it from going any further. Keep in mind that as long as the switch is unplugged the lights are on.
