Cliff was driving through Arizona today on his way to South Dakota. For those of you don't know while Cliff is our Forum Archivist and Father of the Solutions links he is also a full time farmer that splits his time between California and South Dakota following the seasons. On this trip he was dropping off his ZF transmission from his 95 for the full ZF DOC treatment. Who knew a ZF transmission blue tag fits nicely in the back of a 90 ZR-1? Here Bill (The ZFDOC) is taking a knee going over the spline looking for burring and wear.

Cliff and I before we headed out to dinner at the Black Mountain Tavern and Distillery. Cliff liked the auto Z and took it for a drive around the parking lot. After dinner we shook hands as Cliff headed northwards. Glad to finally meet Cliff after all these years on the phone and emails and PM's

I dropped off my 95' Blue Label ZF Trans. Bill alteady did a 91' trans with short shifter that is now in my 95'. AND ........It shifts sooooooo smooth

Have to say .....Daryll's Automatic Z is very interesting and the sound is A groul that scares anyone interested in trying to beat him on a green light :D

It was fun and interesting the explanation by Bill how he makes those ZF transmissions so smooth. I have to get Bill to take photo of that ZF layed out on the bench

That's what it's all about - connecting with people who share this crazy love of ZR-1s. Awesome!

Regards,
Mark

Your right Mark just last week when I broke down in Montgomery Alabama both Ted and Steve offered to help. Its not just the car but the folks who drive them and the club that binds them. :handshak:

Made it to South Dakota at 4:30am Monday. Got almost 30mpg all the way on 91 Octane gas. No issues and NO TICKETS :D

And.....And.....No Deer in my Headlights albeit I had to slow to 50 mph and drive down center of road (local roads) when in South Dakota. The South Dakota Interstate I90 is a bit different having very wide buffers and the ditches mowed short. I90 speed limit is 80 mph but a friend told me today that I90 was built as a Federal Emergency High Speed Route for Military Vehicles. This was brought up to a South Dakota Highway Patrol by a friend of a friend which Patrolman let him off the hook because of his knowledge of construction of I90.

ZR-1 (1990 #72) is now taking a break alongside the last 1990 sold to public (#3032) ;)

Everybody looks comfortable. Must only be 90 degrees there this time of year.

Low 90s yep. We don't get a break until November. Then everybody wants to be here snowbird wise.

No......they were never in the barn.....they have a nesting place in a BIG OLE Cottonwood tree in early spring each year.

Yes........90 deg in Cave Creek...........But in South Dakota.

70 deg here tomorrow and 76 deg here on Monday.......South Dakota is not sooooooo bad......:D

When on way to Cave Creek, AZ.......I prolly was the only one ever to carry a spare transmission in my ZR-1 on a road trip......;)

On this trip I found a way to balance the tires on the road. I have the little stick on balance weights. I had just a bit of a out of balance wheel so trying one wheel first with one stick on did not change anything no matter where I placed it. So....I tried the other wheel and stuck the weight between two other weights.....got worse.....So.......stuck a weight opposite on inside of rim......got better......stuck weight to left and right of that weight.....got better to right. Now I am on to something........stuck two and three weights to right......got worse. Removed one weight....PERFECT.

From now on I am balancing my own wheels :D

I think I was using the 1/2 oz stick on weights you can get at any auto store. The key is to mark exactly and track the out of balance as you move weights around. I used white marker to keep track. I did not try placing weights further inside the rim but that would be part of the "on the road wheel balancing also" :p

Now I've heard it all :-D Very cool. I'll have to try that.

What I really want to know is how in hell you lifted that gearbox in, and out, of the back of a ZR-1 ?? My back hurts just thinking about it. :-x

Bill and myself.....I had the shifter end and he the output shaft. I lifted up and he lifted up and out rotating as I moved shifter end out toward him.
