Below is a link to the article in this months Corvette Magazine. I totally forgot I had sent out for the trial subscription, and when I got home I saw this sticking out of my mailbox. THEN I saw the story on the cover, and immediately read it there on my steps!!
Hib, just a huge thanks for putting in your countless hours for this story. And all your countless hours in general on the LT5...... I've read it twice, and just could stare at those old pictures for hours. We are very blessed to have you still involved in the LT5 community. I'll shut up so others can read this awesome story of the history of our Beasts. But two things stood out for me. I had no idea GM and Mercury Marine signed the contract so early, 1986. And had a compete prototype running that early. Also, the 'LT5 gang', that's just good reading.
Now excuse me while I will clock out at work here, and go get my Beast. Reading this makes me want to drive :fahne:

Nice, I was told that no photos were to be taken by public until last day of production, true?

Nice job. And it might even school some of the Corvette brotherhood who are woefully ignorant about this great old engine.
I think they've got me as a new subscriber too..classy mag.

Yeah, me too! I renewed partly b/c of Hib's article, but also to try to have a better "crystal ball" into the mid-engine/DOHC developments

Thanks for all the kudos, people. Glad you all liked the article.
I just wish the magazine hadn't edited it so much. There were a couple of key parts they just slashed. One was the explnation of why the cam bearing bore thing was so difficult, ie: there were no cam bearings and the cams rode on the aluminum cylinder head material. Unfortunately, the curse of the freelancer is we can't better control editors.:(
As for what's under the hood, er...engine cover of the mid-engine car, my WAG is a pushrod V8. Cadillac is developing a new DOHC engine but it's pretty small compared to recent Corvette engines. I don't think the engine will be able to make the power GM would like.
My gut feeling is an atmosperic V8 of 450 horses with two electric motors driving the front wheels, each with 150-hp for a total of about 750-hp. Some have rumored the IC engine might be a V6 tt, but I'm skeptical of that.
The 4G ZR-1, coming next year will have a further developed version of the current LT4 and it will likey be badged "LT5".
