Apparently GM re-submitted Trademark application for LT5 engine designation.

On Corvette Action Center.

I don't understand why they reuse old monikers. Other than nostalgia.

Drives me nuts. Then every time you want to talk about an engine, you have to clarify which one (with non GM people anyway.).

Although if they'd put the new Mercury marine motor in, I'd be okay with it...

i hope they use the lt5 moniker again. i hope it is a kick *** car and raises awareness to our cars as the first gen lt5. it can only help our undervalued cars.

I hear you.

"Oh that LT1 engine, sure was a great engine."

"Uh which one, the 70's GEN 1 LT1 SBC, the 90's GEN 2 LT1 SBC or the 2014+ GEN 5 LT1 SBC?"

I guess there are only so many RPO codes available for use as an engine code as the rest of the RPO codes are used for other options like interiors, brakes, wheels and every other standard and optional component on the car.
And the confusion would not apply to the assembly plants where they are needed.
