After replacing the fuel filter, I emptied the filter feed side into a pan and look how much rust came out. For an otherwise corrosion-free 11,000 mile car looks terrible. What do you think?
Also, here is a pic of the filter. Can anyone tell if it is the original?
Thanks,

I wouldn't doubt it by the looks of it.

Don't be worried, the filter from my 94 looked the same when I changed out the factory original at 10k miles. C4 gas tanks have a plastic liner so you are safe there.

Thanks for the replies.
If we have a plastic tank liner I guess the rust/sediment came from the gas stations.

could be the pump assembly. Mine was terrible when I pulled it last year

Thanks Kevin and Jerry.
I looked at Dynomite's Documentation for Used Fuel Pump Assy and came up with a pic from you Jerry. I see what you mean.

Had a chance to pull the pumps this weekend. Here is what if found.
Some corrosion on the pump assembly but not too bad. Looking into the tank I could see some rust crumbs in the tray and at the bottom of the tank. What do you guys think about using something like this device to siphon out the rust crumbs?

Pretty fancy siphon hose, but yes, that will work. I bought a 2ft piece of rigid, copper/brass tube that the siphon hose would fit over tightly & moved it around to suck up the trash. Worked fine. If you use a flashlight at all, make sure its certified explosion proof.

Closing out this thread.
The siphon technique worked well.
Check out the "after pics." Was able to dredge the rust crumbs without too much mess.
