Just purchased a 1990 Red ZR1 with 30,500 miles. Drove it 100 miles home and loved it. The story I got on the car is that it was in GM ownership til 1995. The Carfax shows it was not titled any where til then. Still trying to get more info from the 1st owner who had it since 1995. He traded it in on a new Z06. Anyone else have a car like this ...I would like to learn more. Now for the fun stuff-replace the vacuum pump (secondarys are not working) can't wait to feel that. Repair headlights, fix gas gauge, problem with the Bose, and get the air bag light turned off. Thanks to all you folks and the great articles and the fact I can turn a wrench a little it should not be too bad...Proud to be a new member of the ZR1 club.

Welcome........
Bose I assume speaker amps.
INFL REST is grounding of sensors or plug connection under floor mat.
Headlights I assume is gear for rotation?
Gas gauge would be electrical connection.
Vacuum pump once replaced should turn on for few seconds with switch on and then off for several minutes. If only turns off for several seconds you are operational but do have vacuum leaks.

Thanks Dynomite, I will take all the advice and help I can get. I meant to mention that the last 4 in the VIN are 0106...

#106 is one of the first ;)

I have 1990 #72 and the last 1990 sold to public #3032.

Congrats and welcome to the forum:)
What you may have is a very early "captured test fleet car", my 94 was also owned by GM for 2 years. Another member at the time, in fact one of the LT5 engineers pointed that out to me when I joined the forum.

What I would do.....
1-purchased the Build Sheet & Window Sticker from the NCM. This will tell you who (what dealer or GM Engineering) purchased the vehicle and to where it was delivered.
2-since there was only one other owner besides GM, call the DMV in the state where the PO lives (possibly your home state) and inquire about a title search. Mine was first titled by GM Engineering themselves but went to the "real" first owner in OK. The second owner was a GM dealer that titled the car for 3 months before selling it to the first "real" owner. It cost me $7 that I sent to the OK DMV and ended up getting a complete list of the 6 previous owners before me, dates of registration and even copies of registered titles.
3- contact the PO's dealer or service station where any type of service was performed and request any service records. I was lucky in getting this info, very valuable and interesting.

Thank you all, especially for the info. I did just speak with the former owner and he said it was a GM Engineering car til 1995. He also said he has a lot of paperwork and the original tires for the car...Ill be heading to Northern Indiana to pick that stuff up Monday...

Congratulations on your purchase! I always like a car with a personal GM story. (Then again, they all have a GM story)

Enjoy the madness!
