View Full Version : New Wheels!
Ok old wheels, but I fulfilled one of my biggest list items for my car today. The 92 wheels will become track wheels, and these will hit the street. Russ McBride spotted them locally on craigslist last night and called me. Said if I didn't buy them he would!
After calling, I found out Joe was a big time ZR-1 guy, had owned several of them over the years, and had two sets of these wheels in his basement just gathering dust. I convinced Russ it was a great excuse for a road trip and we showed up at his house with two ZR-1s. Ended up spending several hours there, just talking cars, beer and boats. Joe Lambert, great guy and a member here who hasn't been around in a long time. I think I talked him into getting back on here and contributing. He also still has a ZR-1, but more on that in a different thread.

It pays off to have a Craigslist alert for "ZR-1". :-)

I saw those yesterday. guy in canton Georgia asking 500.00. almost pulled the trigger but I have mine I can just restore and polish them. I have too many wheels but I just haven't found the right set yet... the 90 wheel is unique only to the 90 but not as attractive as the amolds I feel. Just saw that a fellow member finally sold his polished amolds so there goes that pair. Oh well...

The Typhoon/Syclone guys would have been all over those I would have thought had they spotted them. They do those "hot rods" real well.
Clearly, these are the fastest wheels to have.
I'll have them mounted up this week, can't wait!

Love it or hate it, the '90 wheel is a very intricate piece, with a lot of different surfaces, finishes, and techniques incorporated into a single piece.......for this reason I love it!

I have a set of those on the car now with my junk "winter hibernation tires" on em. They got mounted backwards and I didn't catch it til quite a while after they mounted em, and the service mgr cut me a big break on price anyway. Was gonna see if he could get em switched and he has moved to another store far away. So those are only on the car in the garage... Don't want anybody seeing it and saying "look at that dumb:censored: " :o
Mounted up! I'm very happy, this has been something I have wanted to get for my car since the day I bought it. I know people aren't the biggest fans of the 90 wheels, but they are unique to the year and something about them just makes the car more special to me.

You know 8cam, I do like your wheels on your car. I am not much of a fan of the 90 wheels but your car looks good. I just put a new set of oem a mold wheels on my black 90 and I love them. I was tired of the replicas and offsets with spacers...etc... I had 315 17x11 on all four corners.. looked great but lots of unsprung weight and over working power steering and very, very rough ride etc... my car feels a thousand pounds lighter. These amolds were never delivered on a zr1 and my car is the first z to wear them. quite a story. anyway, congrats on your wheels and your very nice and probably very :-Dfast since its black, ZR-1!!

I do believe my 70mph vibration is gone too. I took the TPMS sensors off the 90 wheels (don't need or want them), and now the car is smooth as glass. I'm pretty sure they were the source of vibration on the 92 wheels, one even looks a little off.
FWIW I'll be selling the sawblades, complete with their TPMS sensors and also a complete separate set of TPMS sensors off the 90 wheels. Got to clean them up and get an ad posted.

Thanks to Russ's trip the second set of wheel's are coming to Washington and going on my black 1990 z. My z has 90 wheels that are chrome. I think the chrome looks tacky.
