Was moving some stuff around the shop today and took the opertunity to scale weigh the following LT5 engine components which were handy:

Block (empty) 55 lbs
Lower housing 35 lbs
Crankshaft 60 lbs
Cylinder head (loaded with valves, springs and lifters) 44 lbs
Head bolt set 12 lbs
lower housing and main bearing cap bolts 8 lbs

Interesting!

What year? Specifically, was it a 90-92 or a 93-95 motor?

Was some or all of the porting done, or was it stock?

60 lbs for a crank? Thought my LS7 OEM one was bad at 56+ lbs. I saved almost 10 lbs on a 406 build going from stock cast LS6 one to a Scat Forged lightweight unit.

Thanks for the weights.

Are you talking GEN 4 SBC LS7 crank or Mark 4 BBC LS-7 crank?

That stock LT5 crank is a damn fine crankshaft from Shardlow.

There is a 10168688 on Ebay right now for $400

Thank you for the weight comparison with the LT4 build. I figured there was a good 12+ lbs of weight that could be theoretically saved.

I don't question the LT5 crank build. At 1/10th the cost of a Bryant crank it's a worthwhile trade-off. I'm finally taking the plunge on the Snake Skinner build and figuring where weight savings can be made and overall gains.

Gen IV LS7.

I believe the factory Lt1 crank is 50-53 lbs I can't recall.
