Just got this today.

I would say it was temporary insanity but it's probably permanent. I couldn't help myself. I realized that I'm getting old and life is short.

Wow. That's a couple of really interesting cars.

Do they drive differently? :-)

That is awesome! I've been debating the same thing--a little diversity. GT3 or R8 v10. I'd love to hear some impressions.

V10 R8 is at the top of my list.

I picked it up and went straight home so I can't say much about it's handling. In the normal setting, I think the suspension is more firm than the ZR-1.

I did drive one on the track at Exotics Racing but have never tracked the ZR-1. I also drove the V10 R8 at Exotics Racing and it was awesome. The torque and sound are great and it feels like it's glued to the track. For me though, the R8 looks too exotic and would attract too much attention.

I am lusting for the Hellcat and the Viper. I would love a chance to run against a GT3 in a Gen V ACR.

Call me crazy but the C7 just doesn't interest me, even a little.

Nice Porche! Great Choice. I think it will be more fun than a 911 Turbo.

An "affordable" exotic. I would like to get into a mid-engine next time around.
The Alfa 4C is something I'd love to test drive.

Nice!! I swear it looks like it's off the ground. Did you consider any other cars or was your mind made up already?

Beautiful, fun pair. Congrats!

Gonna have to keep frequently driving the one on the left… to keep exercising the left leg. :dancing

Temporary insanity is healthy....May be a little draining on the wallet, but hey, that's what it's all about......Enjoy it in good health...

I actually spent about a year considering the different cars available. Once I decided what I wanted, it took over a year to get the GT3. It turned out that it's a low production car with demand probably a little more than production. I considered other cars like R8, Aston Martin Vantage, Jaguar F Type R, Mercedes SL and Z06. I didn't feel the Mercedes was the same kind of car as the rest. Each car has a different feel and I liked the GT3. Although I didn't get to drive a Jaguar, SL or Z06, I did drive an SLS and a Stingray.

Recently watched a couple of How It's Made episodes featuring Porsches. Very impressive. One was about the 911 and the other was the 918 (I think). High tech, impressive craftsmanship.

The episode about the Tesla was pretty interesting, too.

I don't blame you. I picked up a mint low mile 997.2 GT3 in guards red with full GMG suspension, wheels, tune, cup car shifter, cage etc. It is so much fun to drive fast or slow! The full GMG header/catalyst/exhaust is so awesome sounding that you would swear it was a 917 race car at 7000-8500 rpms.

I sold 3 ZR-1s to get it, and it was the best decision I've ever made! Zero regrets!

Why no alcantara steering wheel? That and the alcantara shifter are my favorite parts of the interior. You've got way more alcantara in your interior than mine though - such an amazing interior!!

congrats on your new car. I agree that life is short so why not. I am not going to say it drives better or that i sold several zr1's to buy a porsche. Not on this site.It is un-American. I would never sell multiple zr1's to buy a porsche. I have never liked german performance cars and probably never will. I still appreciate what they can do but will always pull for the corvette. Enjoy your car and live long and prosper. Love your white Z!

I chose the leather steering wheel because I was thinking that it would be easier to keep clean.

I do like to support American companies and I did purchase a new Grand Cherokee this year but at the same time I want to purchase what I like best. I keep an open mind and don't limit myself to one brand although I've had 3 Corvettes. The new Z06 is an awesome car at a reasonable price but it just doesn't suit my taste.

Fair enough - leather is definitely easier to maintain - no doubt about that!

Don't feel obligated to apologize for buying a quality German automobile - if the only reason you buy a car is because it's made in the USA, then there's a sucker born every minute. Don't fall victim to the arguments of the great unwashed!

I would hope you like your German car much better considering how many more decades it has been refined.

As far as the great unwashed... well... its been raining a lot here in Socal! We like to shower in the warm rain unlike you crazy Canooks ! 3 cars for 1 ? sheesssh !

Nice looking Porsche... did I spell it right?

Ha ha--just saw this post. That's a line I use on my wife, although if I use it much more I think soon she will try to shorten mine herself! In a similar vein, I have a friend and neighbor who is an author and wrote an autobiography of Teddy Roosevelt that focused in his years after being president and an harrowing 6 month expedition he went on in the Amazon. It was entitled, "My Last Chance To Be A Boy". I told him I used that line when I bought my second and current ZR-1 in 2012, and that he is solely responsible for my automotive frivolity. --Bob

Thanks for the kind remarks.

When it comes to our purchasing of cars, I guess we all try to find justification for our choices. Even to make ourselves feel comfortable with it.

Happy New Year!

Hey Buddy,

Just remember that G6 that showed your Z it's tail-lights!!! Lol

The GT3 is a pure track car for sure. I thought I made a deal with the devil to get one in exchange for 3 ZR-1s, given the average sale price of a used ZR. Should've been 5 or 6! One was an ultra low mile 95, one a stroker, and one a super clean 94. Since then the GT3 has appreciated 15%, so I'm pleased on all fronts. The biggest day to day advance is the pristine interior - and that is consistent no matter what the year of these cars.

When are we going to max out that Z of yours again?

Porsche are the best sportcars when it's about performance and reliability. Especially their brakes work fantastic in our cars.

And of course my personal favorite - It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission - I'm secretly eyeballing the new Shelby GT350R. My new King Ranch may force me to slow my roll, tho. So many toys...so little time.

Up till seeing this thread today I thought I had the ultimate dream garage--for me, at least--with my low mileage (5K miles) '95 ZR-1 and my '92 Porsche 911 Targa. I now realize that I have been significantly upstaged. Congratulations on your new acquisition!! I know you will enjoy driving these two very different cars as much as I enjoy driving my two.
