Any tips on getting a piston in a caliper without nicking the seal?

Well lubed with brake fluid. I start by twisting while pushing in by hand, when it won't twist anymore, I use a 1/2 inch drive extension and push by hand, if it won't go by hand, it will probably damage the seal. It doesn't have to twist much, just enough to get the edge of the seal started. You should feel or hear metal to metal when the piston bottoms out, otherwise there is probably a Chunk of the seal broke off. I think drms stainless pistols go in a little easier. I do order extra seals for the job. Hope this helps. I did lose it one time and used a c clamp, but it was a leaker.

I think what helps a lot of times is Freezing the piston for a few hours and heating lightly the caliper on top of a toaster were you'll be able to barely hold it
Lube with brake fluid all 3 pieces n proceed with a rotating motion until you bottom out
Don't be afraid of heating the seal: It sees alot more heat when you hit the brakes from a hi speed run !

Thanks for the tips guys. I have thought about freezing the pistons and heating the caliper but now that it's been suggested I will definitely try this. I did put one of the pistons in the freezer and it did shrink a hair. Thanks again👍
