View Full Version : Spoiler and Diffuser

Does anyone have thoughts on where the spoiler and diffuser in the attached might have originated - regular aftermarket or custom piece? I know it would be too narrow for a ZR-1 as it sits on this regular C4.
Thanks

This one caught my attn. too - not sure if I would fit either to my Zee, but they are more subtle than most other units I've seen for C4s.

The spoiler and rear diffuser in the picture are renderings and not actual products.

If you're going to put a rear spoiler on your car, this is one of the better looking ones.

Noted - thanks. Not sure if the copper Vette photo is a rendering. Many of the comments in the thread you provided capture my thoughts re how bulky and overdone the C4 aftermarket body pieces are. I like the more subtle spoiler approaches like the C6ZR1, M3, etc. which tend to give that little extra that the otherwise beautiful C4 tail lacks. I will continue my search.

The spoiler on the copper colored Vette is real.
It's made by a company called CHD Tuning in Italy.
Here's their website:

Perhaps they could make a wider version for ZR-1s.

Appreciate that. I am following up with the Italian supplier.

It looks pretty good on the early Vettes. It would be interesting to see what they look like on a later rounded rear (especially in ZR-1 width).

Check out the spoiler Corvette Forum member (GS977) made for his Grand Sport. Best one I have seen yet. The only change I would make to it is recess the center section of it.

Not to my knowledge for the rear, but the front piece will work..

Quite an undertaking by GS977 with very nice results! Does anyone have a photo of how if ultimately turned out - after he lowered the height of the spoiler?

Thanks, Jeff. I agree with the general consensus on the Corvette Forum that this is one of - if not the - nicest rears I've seen on a C4. For me, it really deals with that one aspect of styling that GM could have improved on with this otherwise timeless body. I will be following up on options for the wider ZR-1 rear, with possibly a slightly lower profile than GS' final, excellent product. Thanks for alerting us to this, guys!

I bought my ZR1 last week! And it has a spoiler - from Callaway I have been told.

VERY tasteful modification and something GM should have considered!
I've been following this thread.... :)
Any luck?

Good timing, David. I had discussions with American Hydrocarbon earlier this week; they have the rights to produce the Italian-made unit that appears on the copper car on 1st pg of this thread. They are not interested in producing either a wider ZR-1 version of that unit or a taller, "unnotched center" version (I am not particularly fond of the notch in the center, so I inquired). I've done a search for an "off-the-shelf" product similar to what GS977 did, but I've not found anything close. The GTO spoiler is somewhat similar but personally, I prefer the look of the spoiler "sitting on top of the rear (bumper cover)" to the "wrap around the quarter panel" look.
I was about to make enquiries to custom fab shops to determine the art of the possible - perhaps a group buy might be in order if we could agree on specs. I did a real rough mock up with cardboard last weekend, and I believe a tastefully-designed (taste being personal) rear spoiler is the one thing one can do to enhance the lines on the later C4s; it seems to address that short look that, in some peoples' eyes, gives the rear of the Cs 5 and 6 a more attractive stance when viewed directly from behind.
I'll post any updates here. In the meantime, any and all leads would be welcome.

That is not from Callaway it looks like an Aero wing right from the madvet catalog. I would need a full rear pic to be 100% certain however

We should inquire with Brett. I know he could create a masterpiece for our cars.

I am guessing while he could do it.. the job will be too small for not enough return..
Sort of like the 49th Rockers

You're probably correct and he is already quite busy. He would be the best person for the job though and the other companies won't bother for a ZR-1 specific spoiler.

I reached out to Mike (GS977) a while ago about his spoiler. He is working on a 3rd version now. It will lay about 2" further back, sounds cool. I reached out to him again today to let him know that there is interest from our group. Also mention our asses are 3" wider and offered any help in making something happen. I'll keep ya posted

That's great, Ricky; please do keep us posted. Also a great suggestion re Bret, Craig; he would do an awesome job. He may indeed be too busy, but I'll shoot him a pm anyway. In the meantime, I think if Ricky can get something going with Mike, we would likely have a winning product; his vision and delivery on what he did before was A+!

I like the GS977 spoiler. It's a great foundation that you could easily modify if you wanted to. The contour would have to be custom made for the Z however. Not as curved from left to right.
