It appears Mercury Marine has adapted its giant DOHC boat motor for street rod use. The article is pretty old but I don't recall it being posted here.... perhaps I missed it.

Bob,
A group of us were up in Fond du Lac and visited MMR. We saw one of these beasts being built. But the trick one is the DOHC heads MMR displayed for the LSx block. That could be a worthy sub for the LT-5.

It also weighs almost 800 lbs.

Yes but w 1600hp, it makes up for the extra weight.

oooofffff dah!! 1600 hp is a nice round number
and the LSX fits into the ZR-1 pretty good
like to see what those LSX DOHC heads cost
put those down on a 6 bolt LSX or better still LS Next alum block and you are ready for those hair dryers
even with an LSX iron it might come in pretty close to the LT5 in weight with a nylon intake
boost a muv!

Ron,
The 9.0L QC4V is not an LSx w DOHC heads. The 9L is an MMR motor. The LSx heads are a separate design.

Yep. The 1650 hp came from the article (linked). I wonder if the author has the QC4V and the LSx 'cornfoozed'?

thanks! I know.
and a big TT beast at that! but for sure I know this really is a "boat motor" due to cost, size and weight.
the MM heads for the LSX block are looking promising, but I'm worried they might be a bit too pricey for me.

With the current cost of the FRC the heads might cost you more than the car.

indeed. I bought a turn key TT Z06 for cheaper than the LSV or what LPE charged for the 4 TT ZR-1s they built.
even the later c5 Z06s are prices very cheap
and now the TT c5s are down below 30k which makes them hard to beat if the setup was done well
I've been very happy with the TT Z06, it's a great car.
