Happy 4th. Question and some help. 1995 zr1. Battery was bad and I replaced it. Installed new one. Courtesy lights not coming on. Security lights flashing. Car seems to be disabled. How can I reset the system as I think everything is pointing to the security lock out. Appreciate your feedback.

A guess (because I don't really know the answer. Sorry):

Check fuses.

Good luck.

I have never had a problem with a VATS (Vehicle Ant-Theft System) or PKE (Passive Keyless Entry) after replacing a battery.

I am assuming that you mean the 12 Vdc car battery, and are not referring to the PKE fob battery.

When you say the Security Lights are flashing, what lights are you referring to? The only Security Light I know of is on the left of the dash display. When the word "Security" is flashing after you open a car door with the key or PKE, it means that a proper entry has been made and VATS will allow the car to start. If the word "Security" is on steady, it means that VATS is enabled and the car will not start.

Is it possible there is an after-market alarm/security system installed on your car?

I am with Russ ;)

I may be all wet here but using the door key unlocking and locking the drivers door often cures anomalies.

What you are describing so far could be normal.

The courtesy lights will not go on if the car is in bright sunlight. If the car is outside right now, that's normal. Place your finger on the light sensor on the gauges button panel and the interior lights should go on.

The Security light will flash if the door is open.

Electronic systems can get a bad initialization if the power comes on dirty so to speak. This can happen if you had difficulty connecting the battery cable. Try disconnecting the battery cable for 10 seconds and connect it again.

What happens when you try to start the engine?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes when moved (pushed) it into the garage the courtesy lights came on. When I try and start the car nothing happens. Dash lights don't dime. No clicking. Battery is charged and brand new. I can jump start the car.

You are describing a silent no start situation.

Here is detailed information on how to resolve problem.

Marc thanks for the help. Could it be the infamous starting being bad?

I also noticed that when I turn the key it kills the radio including the power ant and the clock goes dark. Dash lights as well as interior light remain consistent. Just wanted to provide additional info while I trouble shoot.

Check those battery cables especially the ground. Follow it along. What type of replacement battery did you get? If it has top and side posts make sure the top posts are not coming into contact with the Cruise Control Bracket under the ECM and shorting out

I am using a side post batter. I don't think it is a faulty battery since I just replaced it when the issue started. Is their anyway to see if the starter is faulty without all the head aches that go along to get to the starter.

Is their anyway to see if the starter is faulty without all the head aches that go along to get to the starter.Yes.

Between the computer and engine there is a purple wire that goes directly to the starter. If you provide 12v to it that should tell you if the starter is good (although you could still have a bad ground).

Do a search here for purple wire and you'll find more details.

Make sure the car is in neutral with brake on when you send the 12v to the starter.

I followed Dynomite's write-up to install a relay. That is a good mod to do.

Good luck.
