I've always had a thump in the rear of my car when hitting a big bump, jolt in the car and always thought it was the suspension hitting the bump stops because the car is lowered.Well,I've had the glass top on car for the last couple of months and the thump isn't there with the glass top on the car. I do know that the tops do come delaminated from the frames but haven't noticed any of this on the painted top. Anybody else noticed any of this before?

I had a loose bracket on one corner (the two torx screws on either side of the middle hole were not tight). It clattered when you hit bumps.

Thanks for the tip Mike, that was it. Both brackets were loose. I've been hearing that thump for years and never once thought to take a look at the brackets.

Somebody may have tried to adjust it in the past. Do you think the top could have been swapped from another car? Mine was a clear top that definitely was not orig to my car. Probably never tightened them properly after adjustment. Your chassis should feel tighter when you hit irregularities on the road I would think.

Yes this came from another car. The past owner got it from Aaron Scott and I bought it with the car. There's no evidence the top was ever on a car before mine and no tell-tell signs it was ever adjusted for my car so I never thought to check the mounts. Supposedly this was a new car take off but who knows for sure.

Thanks for bring this up and I will check mine out. I heard a thump like that and thought from passenger side suspension but could not find anything loose or wrong. Never thought to check the top out.

By the way, are you going to be at Blackhawk C&C in July?

I found this useful when I was trying to get my two roofs to fit better:

http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4-tech-performance/2441838-tech-article-how-to-correctly-install-c4-roofs.html

It was a pain, and in the end I decided that I won't be taking my glass roof off unless there is a compelling reason. Once I got it on and bolted securely, I decided my car was going to be a coupe (and my painted roof is in semi-permanent storage).

I've only had the glass top on the car twice, most of the time it's stashed away. I'm afraid something will happen to the top so won't leave it on the car and won't jack the car up with this top on the car.

I'm not worried about jacking the car with or without the top on. That's not a real concern, is it?

Over the years I've heard about the glass tops cracking due to the body flex. Not sure if that's true but not willing to find you.

Hi Craig,I'll be there. Okay, cool. Maybe another mini Z gathering. I think I'll try the Dymag wheels this time.

What we always do is use two floor jacks, either on the same side or the same end. Seems to minimize the stress.
