All, on my newly acquired Z the driver side seat belt is stuck and will only come out a few inches at most. Is there any kind of quick fix for this?

Steve : If you check on line you will discover that there was/ is a GM re-call on the seat belt issue. As it is a safety issue re-call it should still be addressed by a GM dealer.

Check with a dealer to see if your VIN # has had this addressed previously -if not GM should do so.

Cheers:

Thanks, I remember about the recall and will check with the dealer Monday. Was hoping there was a quick fix to make it somewhat functional.

They'll honor the recall because it's "safety". It was a 1990 factory recall on 89s and
some 90s. The # is somewhere on our site, a search should find it.
But, I hope you like blue seat belts...
Ask me how I know...
Easiest thing is to find some used ones the right color. They're easy to find
and don't cost much.

Mine are black, do I just need some belts or anything else I need to shop for?

It is usually an issue with the 'Cinch' buton which may release it with some wiggling & jiggling, etc. Check with the dealer before "shopping". Belts can be dyed Blk.

Well, dealer can't find any belts, no surprise. Found a set on ebay guess I will have to buy.

If you push the dealer they have to comply with
the recall because it's safety related. Ask for the
the "home office" number, take it "upstairs". It took them 3 months
to resolve mine, but all they could find in their system was blue seat belts.
I needed red. After much looking,
I found some NOS belts at a GM dealer in Missouri, the belts had been in their parts
dept for 20 years. But that wasn't in their "system" /control enough for them... after all
it's safety related.
I have to give them credit, they did try. The recall is still open on my car.
Got sick of screwing around, couldn't use my passenger seat "legally", so
ended up buying a used set from someone here in the Registry. About 20 minutes
to install.

Well, they said they will keep looking but can come get my car at least. They are going to at least try to get it un-jammed and usable in the mean time. I found a set of black belts from a 90 that I might as well buy for a backup.

This recall goes all the way back to 84. Even though it's safety related GM doesn't have the seat belts. Seems odd they would let these go out of production even though this is an open recall campaign.
