Thinking of doing this mod to my 91....Just had headers cat back hurst shifter ,Haiback chip and intake temp sensor wire relocated to the front near the air filter done to the car..
Really liked the additional horsepower gains i picked up and of course the sound........I know a lot of members port the plenum and injector housings.......Is the horsepower gains throughout the rev range or more up on top? Im not to hung up on peak horsepower numbers, more impressed with seat of the pants feel..
Thanks....

I bought a set of injector housings and plenum from Locobob. HP went from 353 to 397 RWHP. I was pleased. Problem with seat of the pants was the winter. I parked the car with 353 hp, five months later I got to drive it with 397 hp, long delay to try to judge s.o.t.p.
Efnfast what else is done to your car? 44rwhp from the plenum and injector housing is amazing!

injectors, coils and wires. But I don't attribute any of that to HP gains. Locobob did a trade with me. My car also has headers, exhaust, and a Marc H chip, but that stuff got me from 311 hp to 353. -Steve

That is impressive power. Can't wait to start the mods. Haha.

Glad to hear you're happy wid um! Locobob is meticulous in his work, and I'm not surprised at the gains you got.

How much does Locobob charge for the porting?
Vette73

700 for the porting....From what I understand is you send him 700.....He ports one, sends you the plenum when it's ready....Then you send him yours...
Locobob

Actually I charge $900 to do a customer supplied, $1500 for my core - $600 refunded with core return. I do these completely by hand - usually 60-70 hours of meticulous work.

This is a 91 with just a cat back exhaust, before and after intake porting. This is a really old dyno and it has less aggressive porting than I do now but you can see the rpm range - gains start around 4200rpm.

Cheap..... Considering the work that goes into doing a good porting job, Where else can you buy horsepower at that rate?
And the nice thing , it is not adding additional stress to your engine, it is only making it more efficient.

Is this just the plenum ported or the fuel injector housing as well?

For my or Locobobs thats both the plenum and IHs being ported

How much power does it usually add? Is it 20-30 WHP?
I assume you have to retune after this mod?

Thats a safe #, 20-30 RWHP. Tuning will optimize...however the power levels vary based upon the health of the motor and were the cam timing is from the factory.

That's awesome that you and LGAFF both offer a good price on the porting. How much power will you pickup with porting the TB & air horn. Should you get a Marc H or other chip after the porting, how much power would you be leaving on the table without it?

You have to get the chip e-programmed, otherwise there will not be a significant difference in performance. When you give it more air you have to give it more gas. Expect your mileage to drop slightly, more if the heads are done. It's addictive, when I had the heads done and headers, no cats dyno tuned the HP climbed through 6500 leveled off and did not drop off through 7200. If I had the cash I would go 415..........................Wheres my ride Ted?

There is enough extra fuel in the factory proms WOT program to support some breathing mods. You can generally get away with headers or porting but not both without adding fuel.
We need to clarify, there is some differences in porting.
The price does not tell the whole story.
There is two different ways to porting 35mm and 36mm
On the 35mm i use a 35mm gauge ball that will drop straight thru primary port (1990-1992 IH's).
On the 36mm porting i use a 36mm gauge ball that will drop straight thru (1990-1992 IH's)
35mm $650 this is very easy and less time consuming no fears
36mm more time consuming have to be very careful getting close to water and oil jackets most don't do 36mm $1000
$150 reprogram prom.
On my IH's i made the 36.5mm gauge ball drop thru this is very scary my IH's are like l98 intake runners :-D

Just to clarify, Anyone who has had their intake ported by me knows the ports are larger than 35MM,typically the smallest part of my primary runners are 35.3-35.5MM+ around water jacket areas.
I leave some safety margins as with powdercoating you have to sandblast....going too thin and you start blowing through the runner walls.
I enjoy doing porting which is why I offer it at a reasonable price. Both Pete and Locobob do a great/awesome job with their porting. I started doing this as a low cost alternative for those that could not afford more expensive porting.

Locobob,
In my case I have to disagree with you on the fuel scheduling after porting. When you did my plenum and injector housings it ran a little better but felt lean. When Marc reprogrammed my chip it ran a lot better, actually much stronger. Maybe it was just my set up to begin with, factory. Whether you did mine 35mm or 36mm only you know.

Pete,
How much more to do the disassembly also? ie drive my car to you, you disassemble, port and reassemble and I come get the car?
